OK, this is my first converson and it was all going well until I checked the travel on my throw out arm. I'm using the AA part # 712577, I used the 04-0464 LUK clutch kit and the provided bearing. By the time the throw out arm (forged chevy type) hits the tangs on the clutch it is hitting the back hole of the BH opening.. Oh, its a Chevy pattern on a B series cummins..

this is the AA Landcruiser/ chevy T/O bearing...

Everything was Chevy before so I'm not sure what the difference is..

May need a TRUCK style thorwout bearing with a longer body, and/or a longer pivot stud. John

Yup, I scrounged around the bone yard for a longer pivot- All I found was a similar length in the half-ball configuration for a cruiser. The old one was thrashed and is in the scrap yard. I'm sure the clutch kit t/o bearing is the basic, most common and least expensive version..

Find a good parts house, like maybe a Napa, that will work with you. Start calling out different Chevy applications for the pivot ball. Like 72 K-10 68 Camero. See what show up. John

Call AA tomorrow. I'm sure they've seen this before.

Of course it wasn't in stock but there is a longer collar for the t/o bushing.. not in stock but 1" longer collar. It might be too long..

5/8" +/- part number N2086SA, it looks like the same thing just longer distance between the fork to face.. Thanks for the tip.. I wonder if there is a clutch with a not so low profile ??

OK, so I had read the link AA sent me I would have already figured this out..

Copied from AA's clutch recommendation via "Geno"

"*NOTE: Clutch assembly includes a standard GM N1086 release bearing. When using this kit with a Landcruiser V8 conversion then release bearing 716314 or 716316 will be needed and are sold separately. In additon, when using the Mark's 4WD adapter assembly, their pilot bearing assembly is a two piece unit. The replacement pilot bearing can be obtain at a NAPA store under SFK # 6202-2RSJ and re-use the kit's steel sleeve."

I guess I wasn't paying attention.. I wonder if I would have ordered a different clutch kit if I would have received the right throwout assembly.. reguardless I'm still $$$ ahead vs. the $200 AA kit.

So are we finally moving forward with the diesel? how much longer till we see some chop cut welding going on? Keep up the momentum I would like to see this next year at McGrew.

clint

Yes, moving forward. It is sort or like watching the ocean rise as the polar ice caps are melting. No really, just keep watching ;).
Eventually I will do an official build thread. Current progress is due to work being slow. The work you, Boots and Orion did on their rigs was a big motivator.. I've been working on stuff over the years just not this.

Install went fine. I still have a lot of things to do, finish wiring, pluming air and coolant, lift, tires and fix items the the recipient rig needs PM'd or fixed... Just life and other items taking up my tinker time.
