I am sure there are a LOT of people that are against the rear spoiler and want theirs off for rust reasons. I had one of these on my Blazer YEARS ago living in Missouri rain and snow and never had rust issues. If the proper gasket is under it there are no concerns.

I now live in Arizona and will not have any rust issues and I like the clean back window when having one of these spoilers on.

Has anyone put this on themselves to a rig that did not have one installed? I am looking for a source to get the 6 nutserts I need to get it mounted. Any ideas?

You will need access to the underside of the lift gate to install nutserts from the back. That is impossible without major surgery (ie cutting access holes in the cavity) and seems overly destructive just to put that wind deflector on. If you do want to go ahead with this, maybe try a body shop and ask about the adhesives they use. The two part adhesive they use on body panels is way stronger than even a weld and no perforation where rust can begin. That should be more than enough to hold a deflector on.

You can use rivet nuts, well nuts, nylon inserts to try and attach the deflector. Rivet nuts would be the easiest solution.

I think the easiest way would be swap lift gates with someone.

OK, reviving an older thread (not too old though).

Our 80 has a loose rear spoiler and it is looking like the nuts are stripped. Any way to replace these or is the above post of "swapping my life gate" out my only option? I want to seal this, as I do not want rust.

Thanks.
