I love my DD 1995 FZJ80 with 196k miles. Working to get it baselined slowly. I'm a beginner mechanic and learning as I go. The shocks are in bad shape and a bit dicey when driving at high speeds and hit a bump or pot hole.

I recently acquired a used OME set of shocks and springs in stock height. I'm learning that many of the shops that I have approached to do this job are unwilling/unable to install used parts for insurance liability reasons.

I wanted to reach out to this group for help with 1 of 2 things:
1) name of shops in the Topeka-Lawrence-KC are who might be willing to install used parts OR
2) a fellow LC enthusiast who would be willing to help me install shocks and springs. Willing to compensate.

I'm aware that this might be considered simple and straightforward. However, there is some degree of danger for a nube like me and being my DD it needs someone with experience to make sure its done right.

any help would be appreciated.

Jess and Rob are awesome, and will set you up; however, if you are wanting to learn and turn wrenches, and have the abilty to bring a case of beer, I am willing to help you navigate this endeavor.

Cheers,

If Topeka location matters, Kansasland on Wanamaker can also do the work. We don’t mind if you supply parts. We can also do your alignment afterwards.

Actually, a Topeka location that would install my parts is ideal. Anyone in particular I should ask for or who can I say sent me? I'll call over there soon. Thanks.

Thanks for your willingness to help. In going to check out flatlanders suggestion. If it doesn't work out I may take you up on it. Thanks again

There is also 4x4Land in south Topeka. I have been very happy with their work on my other vehicles. Ask for Mike Starkebaum (Owner). Tell them the Studebaker guy sent you.

I had them rebuild the front suspension on my Studebaker as well as the rear differential. Also did the transmission and transfer case for my son's 70 GMC.

Thanks Bilt4me. i'll keep them in mind.

Thanks to everyone for your insight. Thanks especially to @Flatlanderfj40 and his suggestion. Kansasland Tire(2855 SW Wanamaker Rd, Topeka, KS 66614) was happy to help and their staff were quick to replace the tired and worn-out shocks. 26 years was long enough for original shocks. There is a notable difference in handling

I didn't take measurements beforehand but as you can see in the photos 1 got about 1 inch of lift in the back and maybe 1/2 inch in the front. Keep in mind I had a used OME stock height shock and springs installed. I'll look forward to seeing if there is any settling in the coming months in preparation for upgrading to new tires next year.
