Make sure you're in neutral. It might help to unlock the hubs too just to put the least bindage on everything. Hopefully, when everything is warm, with good lubricant circulation and the wheels are turning, it will shift better, but for now I'd have everything as free as possible.

Wow, time flies and too much to do. This morning I finished installing the Orion in my other pig. It's good to have him back up and running. But now I can't get him out of the garage becuase of my other project.

I am happy to say that we successfully removed the 203 and the 205. Not too bad. It just took some time to get everything off and to make sure everything was strapped up so it wouldn't fall off.

Now my plan is to rebuild both while I have them out and at the same time install all the parts for the cable shifter. Then re-install and get it rolling again until the next project.

Did they need to be rebuilt?

Well now that is a good question. I know the one (203) was terrible for popping out of gear. So my mentality is, while I have them out, rebuild them because I really don't want to take them out again.

If you or anybody else can elaborate on what causes the 203 to pop out of gear please do so.

I have a 203/one piece case setting here that I know has popped out of gear. Initially it looked to me like the shift lever was hitting the 40 body it was in and not allowing the shifter to put the 203 completely in gear.

However, if there is something else that could cause that problem I'd like to make sure it won't be a problem once I get it installed in my 40.

I was having a problem w/ mine...
There is a spring that resides underneath the case that keeps tension on the shift location. That gets worn.
I didn't replace mine yet, but I did pull it out and stretch it to give it more holding power.
Worked great all summer, but it did pop out of gear last run. :(

OK, back to this project now.

Taking a closer look at the t/c's we don't believe that we are going to get them rebuilt, they look like that was done by the po so why waste good money?

We do have to replace the spud shaft/plungers, whatever you call them so that we can put on the cable shifters, and we need some help with that.

We took the bolt. spring and ball out. Now what? Do we have to get inside the t/c itself now to undo something to get them to pull out?

Also, can someone tell me if this is right? When we got the springs and balls out and the shifters moved freely, it seems as though the two shafts work in unison with each other. That you cannot pull the one out until you pull the first out. So it is kind of a back and forth system. Pull one, and then the other, repeat.... Is that right?

Thanks for your help.
