I got a PM asking if this trail is doable in a stock 80...
Looking for others to weigh in here...

This is a short, popular trail because it is very close to Boulder and the weather is almost always nice because of its extremely low elevation. The rating varies widely based on the path you take -- each difficult obstacle is almost always right next to an easy bypass. This makes Carnage Canyon a fun trail because everyone can find a line they will enjoy and find challenging, meaning everyone in the group will have fun.
The trailhead is shared with the trailhead to the Left Hand Canyon trail, and the first 0.2 miles are shared by the two trails. You'll pass by areas with "No Shooting" signs but there are almost always people shooting here, so use caution and make sure they know you are there. This area is usually littered with a variety of things, and it is customary to pick up a little bit of the trash to take back with you to help keep the trail as clean as possible (bring trash bags).
The trail splits fairly soon. Carnage Canyon continues straight ahead while the Left Hand Canyon trail continues to the left and up a hill. Go straight here.
Guardian Rock is the first named obstacle you'll find, not far past the shooting area. It is an optional set of rocks that is difficult to get over, and you might not want to try it if you don't have good rocker guard protection. It's easy to slip off of if it's wet.
From here to the end you will be in the shade. In the winter, this means it is often icy and snowy, and you can also find it to be pretty muddy unless it is in the summer. In the summer the weather is often like it is in Boulder, though the shade keeps it a bit cooler.
There are a few rocky sections, but take care to stay on the trail. It is often difficult to tell which is the true trail and which is the man-made, illegal trail but do your best. The actual trail follows the river bed except for one and only one section. Stay off of the sides in all other places to prevent erosion as much as possible. Use common sense above all.
This trail is in danger of being closed because of all of the abuse. Please be careful and stay on the trail. There are often park rangers watching, and you could be fined.
The Squeeze is another fun and optional obstacle. There is a pointed rock in the middle of the trail and a large rock beside it. You need to put your tires on these rocks to get to the other side. Be careful if this is wet! Sometimes the dirt and snow will make this obstacle not as challenging, but you should still be careful. Do not go around it to the right as this is an illegal bypass. This obstacle is also known as the V-Notch.
Just after The Squeeze the trail splits. You must follow the trail to the left, out of the river bed. There will probably be tracks following the river bed but do not follow them. This is a confusing section, but stay above the river bed on the left and you will be on the legal trail. The correct trail is challenging, with a tippy area of loose dirt. There is also a place where you have to go between two trees, and this could be difficult for larger vehicles.
Soon you work your way back down to the river bed and some smaller rocks. On the left you find a big slab of a rock. This is The Slab. You can get up it fairly easily, but make sure you have the clearance to get off the other side. It can easily high center many vehicles. It is easily bypassed on the right.
Weave your way through the rocks, or drive over them if your vehicle is equipped. Use caution and stay on the trail.
There are some points where people have driven into trees trying to play on the larger rocks. Don't run into trees or run over exposed tree roots unless they are in the trail (which is rare).
The next big obstacle is called The Waterfall. It can only be attempted by larger vehicles, and it is this obstacle that gives this trail its high rating. It is two large rocks that can be driven over, and they are difficult to even get on top of. You can bypass them on the left, but this can even be difficult in the snow or mud.
Follow the river bed and soon you will climb up out of it and find yourself at a confusing intersection of trails known as Five Points. If you take the left-most trail and continue taking left turns you will end up on the Left Hand Canyon trail where you can work your way back to the trail head (a compass and map of the trails is handy here).
If you continue to the right you will go up an extremely steep and dangerous hill called Fireman's Hill. This hill should not be treated lightly -- it's dangerous!
This is a rare trail, because stock vehicles can run alongside extreme rigs and both can have a good time. Please make sure that the only time you are out of the river bed before Five Points is between The Squeeze and The Slab.
