Anyone else in a little bit of a scramble mode?

Sliders are on.
Brake lines are extended.
Rear bump stops are extended.
Rear sway bar bracket is extended.
Trailer wiring is checked out and hitch adjusted.
New u-joints - front and rear drive shafts.

May end up removing the viscous coupler from the transfer case on Saturday.

Still need to check/top off fluids.

Oh, and get packed.

What's wrong with the viscous coupler?

Short version - had some noise at 60 and above coming from what sounded like the transfer case. Swapped front and rear u-joints - no help. Took it to a buddy/mechanic and we put it up on the lift. Put a set of ears on everything rotating with tires turning at 60 MPH and everything shy of the txfr checked out quiet. Front and rear output bearings are tight w/ no movement or leaks. Billy thought it sounded like the VC when we were driving and is pretty confident that was what the ears told us. Everything else - wheel bearings, pinion bearings, etc. are quiet. When it was up on the lift it really started humming around 45. The VC isn't locked up, but I'm guessing it isn't too far from being that way.

Shoot, all I gotta do is build a Toy Box, crossmember for said Toy Box, driveshafts, shifters and mod the tanny tunnel. Then I can rebuild the carb, replace a couple of battery cables to the winch and get the hydro-assist put back on.

Anyone wanna come over and wrench when the parts get here?

I pretty much got through my easy stuff, I still need to modify my sliders that I had on the 00' 4Runner so that they will fit the 85'.

Basically need to cut off all extensions and grind smooth. Work out the proper angle and length, then weld them up. Since I've never done something like this I'm sure it will take 3-times as long and I will barely get it done before I leave on Tuesday.

Good news is I don't have to get done what Mike has on his list

I gave up even before I finished my to-do list...the minute I start working on somthing I start finding other things to fix. that and the more I crawl under my rig the more rust I find...

I'm just bringin what I have and I'll be happy just to be there.

My list of things I would like to do is probably as long as Mike's, but fortunately I don't have many that I have to get done to wheel.

I still have all the pieces to do dual cases, but by the time it cooled off enough for me to do any work in the garage, I didn't have enough time before FN. :crybaby: I'm just gonna settle for repairing the exhaust (broken hanger and tailpipe), finish up the mounts for the half-doors, throw some primer on 'em and try to track down the cause of my erratic idle speed.

Almost?

T-case rebuilt (Thanks Erik and Eric for phone support!)
ARB bumper purchased (Installing this weekend)
Winch purchased XD9000 (Installing this weekend)
Sliders are NOT going to be done!
Rear bumper is not even drawn up!
Since it is just me this year, the packing will consist of coolers, clothing and tools. Hopefully they will be used in that order!

Power steering box is laying on the ground, waiting for one to show up from Marlin.
Gargage looks like the front of my truck exploded in there.
Can't wait to wheel!

Rear bumper's done (maybe some more painting)
brake lines on
shackles modified
hopefully will have the CB ready
Got the wife's appendix removed (does that count?)

I really hope that's it, for ER visits anyway.

The front of my truck did explode! It finally arrived home 9:00 PM Sunday, got one knuckle apart last night, took my steering box apart, other knuckle is going together tonight? Gotta fix the daily driver as well sounds like I have a sticky caliper on it somewhere. It'll be ready! dunno how the arms will miss the frame yet!

Ok, CDL switch is on its way from Christo. Just need to cut a wire to do the 7-pin mod - waiting for the CDL switch to do it all at once. Even have the dash apart.

Going to dig a little into the transfer case noises this weekend. Front and rear output bearings/seals for the transfer case are on their way from Molle, but I'm hoping to NOT use them.

Chris,

Duh, I just read you had a CDL switch on order. I was going to ask if you've driven it with the center diff locked but you're currently stuck in low range only. You can trouble shoot the issue using the ECT switch IIRC and the pin 7 mod. Once you get the new switch in swap things back. That should at least get you rolling towards a solution, especially if you need to order parts.

Does anyone have mini-truck t-case mount??? It and my clutch disk have disappeared.

Thanks,
Mike

mike, what size clutch is it? the 8 7/8" or the 9 incher? I have a 9 incher in my parts pile at the shop. i'm pretty sure I have a tranny mount too but that one is for a g58 tranny but I highly doubt it will work.
