Notching gearbox cross member for tailshaft clearance

I've done a few of these - just cut out a big chunk and welded in some re-inforcement. A section of pipe would probably work well.

? my car is massive and mine only just hits...

Point the pinion up and cut/rotate mate

wont hit then

You got hi pinon centre though dont you?

Mine is low pinion, it hits hard, not gonna cut and turn for a SPUA rig, seems excessive, though would help with my castor which is ok currently but could do with ~2 deg more. I'll look into it more.

Yeah mate its a HP center.

Im going to a 60s axle next year and not looking forward to the subsequent uni angle lol

Are you still having driveshaft clearance problems? Go to the wreckers and get a HZJ crossmember or notch (you will see 3 plates of stamped steel sandwiched together) I just notched my crossmember like 1/2 " and welded the exposed plates together. My BJ 74 came with a short spline front driveshaft. I was able to find a longer spline one.
No clunck or binding.

Per my other thread I have fitted a front sway bar, next major project is to notch the front cross member. Anyone have pics on how they have done theirs?

I will probably get another cross member from the wreckers to do they work on, is a HZJ75 unit more desirable than others or are they all the same?

Plan is to use some large pipe to gain about 1-2'' extra clearance.

this was from a toybox installation -for ideas
