Only thing I woulda done differently is add pieces to cover the bosses at the cone bolt holes cuz those will crack/ split & fall apart. I made mine a press fit.

i saw a pic of yours after i started tinkering with mine. looks like a lot of work but it outta work very well.

i don't think there's going to be an issue with the outer bosses cracking since the nose cone can not "wiggle" with the saver on it.

one of the possible "failures" i forsee with either saver design is that the threads will pull out of the case. that can be easily remedied by just drilling and tapping the case to a larger thread size. of course the nose cone would have to be drilled out as well to accept the larger bolts.
i thought about this scenario when making the savers but decided not to incorporate it for two reasons:
1) drilling out the nose-cone bolt holes will weaken the bosses even more
2) drilling and tapping the holes in the t-case will require partial dis-assembly of the case in order to remove all the debris/shavings. this will add a lot of work and will be difficult to achieve with the t-case in the vehicle

i designed this part with simplicity in mind, and it had to be as easy as possible to install. of course the idea can be taken further, just like the t-case saver. there's no one way of doing it "perfect". this is just one take on the idea........
 
Wouldn't studs be a stronger option? I was always tightening the bolts prior to studs.

I use studs with the un-threaded shoulder on them..(T-case can rest tighter on them= less flex IMO) and double nut them..IIRC the cruiser minds agreed studs were stronger back in the day. I use them on the back of my AA t-case support ( v8 ) cross member and double nut them as well.

you bet studs are stronger and offer more support. i had contemplated selling the kit with studs but i have not found them for a reasonable price. if i do, i will sell the kit with or without them. i guess i need to try looking a little harder. i did find a source for the studs for the t-case cross members and bought 100 of them, since that was the only way to get them at a reasonable price. hopefully i can do the same for this kit.

nice ring george would it be possible to grind the small end of the nose cone round to that casting ring thats close to the front .then install another ring and attach the 2 rings together .that would support both ends of the nose cone may be lame but its worth asking good luck

they were just introduced. marlin was at our swap meet this saturday and had a bunch with him. so i bought a few......


i don't think they're shown on marlin's website yet. i'll try to take some pics tomorrow; need to build a front axle for a customer anyways. :grinpimp:
 
so i've got 12 nose cone savers boxed up and going to the post office tomorrow. lemme know what you guys think after you get them installed.

yup, cost would be a major concern. if you have to put that much work into it, then you might as well go with the billet nose cone. ( trying to see if we can get a run going on those as we speak but don't hold your breath ).

this "kit" is supposed to be simple and cheap. and that's what it is.:)
 
no luck on reasonably priced studs yet either. but i'm working on that as well.....
