I'm going to head up to Gillespie Gulch this Saturday Oct.9th, the trail is north west of Boulder up Lefthand Canyon, anyone is welcome to come, proably meet at the bottom of the canyon around 10:00?, feel free to give me a call at 970-290-1627, Brad.

Hey Brad, how hard is the trail? I remember going up it part way, till we hit snow. But I'm curious if you think a mostly stock Tacoma TRD (rear locked) with 32" AT tires will make it fine? Is the trail tight, bushes hanging over to scratch it etc? Not questions for me but for Kumar, who might bring his Taco...

Later..
Mark

Mark- There aren't any tight spots that i can remember, i think it's rated a 6, my buddy has done it in his TRD Tacoma no problem, so far we have Shawn, Brendan, a couple of J**ps off of Colorado4x4, and me of course, i think he should have no problem avoiding pinstriping, if he gets nervous he can always ditch his truck and hop in with one of us, the plan is to meet at the Greenbriar at 12:30, see you there, Brad.

Meet up at 12 in Longmont (my house - 1636 20th Ave) or 12:30pm at green Briar (36 and Left Hand Canyon road) and from there head to trail. Expect to be on trail aired-down at 1pm. Huxley, Christo coming as well.

Man I wish I was still living in Denver! I would Def. be meeting up with you guy's for this.

Well i had an AWESOME time yesterday, got to see the Short Bus in action, Kumar's Lexus on 37" Crawlers, and broke my truck for the first time, Christo, Brendan and Mark flew down the trail in front of me so they missed out on all the fun we had fixing my truck, I snapped a 3/4" heim joint on pass. side control link, the axle rolled backwards and under the truck and my front pass. side spring fell out, after jacking the truck up and using a come along to straighten the axle, we put in an old spare heim i luckily had thrown in my parts bin, and i was on my way, it made for a really slow drive home because the heims were at different lenghts giving me some horrible death wobble, hopefully Mark will post some pics, as i'm still in the dark ages with my 35mm camera, Thanks again for all of the help from everyone to get my truck off the trail, Brad.

U guy's have any pics?

Hey Brad, I'm going to be heading to Denver in about 3 weeks, maybe we can hook up and do one of the trails out there. Let me know.

Yep, trail run was fun. Kumar and I were approx 1 hr 45min late (long story with missing suspension bolts, traffic jam, no cell phone number, etc, but we finally made it up there), so the whole group had left long before we got there. As we headed up the trail, the first tough part is a short climb with soft dirt and big rocks, easy to spin, kinda slide around. There were a few motorcycles there trying to make it up, they let us pass and I made it on my 2nd attempt, Kumar made it on his first :flipoff2:, but the guys there said the larger group wasn't far inhead of us. So we cruised the rest of the way until meeting them not far from the end of the trail. Chatted for awhile, then drove up to the end of the trail which has a awesome view, great spot, warm day (it never gets to warm at that elevation), couldn't have been a better trail run.

Cruised back down, posing for some tweaking shots, then got down to Brad's broken heim joint. Man, that was a mess, what Brad didn't mention is the truck was tweaked and pointed down a quite steep part of the trail, right front tire was about a foot further back than it should have been, axle was twisted up, front u-joint was jammed, etc. We finally winched the truck back, pulling the axle forward (used a highlift with a cool attachment with hooks and just grabbed the rim, lifting the tire off the ground so we could move the axle forward with a come-along, very slick attachment someone had). Then Kumar hopped under there to do the work (vehicle was still on the winch from the back, so couldn't go anywhere anyway), we planned on actually welding it, but it was not going to be easy to weld or fab something up, Kumar did have his ReadyWelder there with us, so we *could* have welded, but then Brad remember he had his old joint, so once in there it was probably only a 20 minute job of replacing the joint with the old one. However the whole ordeal took just under 2 hours sitting there on the trail, by the time we were done it was dark and getting rather chilly...well atleast for all of us that were doing nothing, Kumar was under the vehicle working so he probably wasn't cold... :D

Once we got it all back together, we all headed down the trail, Brad had to go get his daughter, Kumar and I decided to go out to eat with some Jeep guys who were there too. This trail run was posted on www.co4x4.org also, so a few Jeep guys were there, nice guys, so we went to a restaurant in Longmont (just East of where we were)...that was great fun, all headed home after that, so it was a great (albiet long) day. My friend Eric Kinne was there too, took some pics, I haven't gotten mine up yet, but here are his:

Wish I could have made it out this past weekend, sounds fun. Did Gillespie Gulch get harder? Last time I did it I didn't think it was so bad.. but after looking at the pics and hearing about all the breakage, it sounds like it's tougher now than it was a year or two ago.

Reason I ask is I'm leading the spooky night run on Oct 30, and this was going to be the trail... now I'm wondering if we should go somewhere else..

depends. i suggest you go run it in daylight and judge for yourself. there is probably one spot where some rigs may not make it up without lockers if wet, otherwise there is bypass everywhere else.

Hey Brad sent you a PM.

Nice pics by the way!!

Hey, if anyone wants to do this run again, we're doing it twice over the next two weekends... first is this coming Sunday, 10/24.. meet at the Greenbriar at 09:00. a map can be found here http://risingsun4x4club.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=407&PN=1

Assuming all goes well with the run this Sunday, we'll be running this again on Saturday night, 10/30, for our annual Spooky Night Run & weenie roast. More discussion about that can be found here: http://risingsun4x4club.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=406&PN=1

Yes, these are both Rising Sun runs and all are welcome to join us..

Very Nice!! I'm There guys.
