For those of you wondering if your rig can make I would guess it can. I went on the pig run there year before last. I have a tired F with a bad accelerator pump, open diffs, and 32in tires. I made it in from the north and back out the north with no problems. It was even night time.

The trip is lots of fun. If you own a pig you can make it from the north. from what I saw and heard the route in from the south is a bit more challenging.

Here are some maps and info:

Is this event still on as planned? I am getting ready to do a few things to the pig for the run, being it is a 10 hour drive from my house and we are taking a week or so to wander around No Cal.

So Deer Valley is somewhat of a mellow trail? I am curious if I need to pack the kitchen sink full of parts, or if I can plan on not destroying the pig much.

Also, is extra petrol needed beyond what a stock tank will hold?

I'll be there, Don't know about anyone else! Last time, 2 years ago, there were like 14 pigs there, a couple of 40's a 60, couple of 80s... From total stocker to full-on rock buggy and everything in between. I have not been in through the HWY4 side, they say it's a bit more challenging than the HWY88 side.

Extra gas might not be a bad idea, it's actually kinda remote. Nearest gas on the 88 side is Hams Station, or Pioneer, or South Lake Tahoe. Don't know about the HWY4 side... I can get there and back on a tank from Sacramento.

I'll check that other board.

See you there...

:pig:

Snailwagon , what day are you going up , i am gonna take the 25th off and go up early in the am , with another piggie Joe S .
The top hwy 4 side is tame we took a bone stock 55 i there and got in ok , Just bring as much stuff as you will break , I have mine overloaded with parts , and with the welder on board we should be able to fix almost anything that could go wrong .
Fj55-100

I think I am going to take Friday off as well. I want to get up there early for some fishing :)

Where will everyone be camping?

In the center of the trail where you cross the stream , there are several camping spots . we will be inthere
fj55-100

Hola fj55-100, we are actually heading up north on the Wednesday before the pig run. We are going to go up around Laurel Lake (Mammoth Lakes are) for a day or two, and then take our sweet precious time making our way up to deer valley. I'm probably going to stop in Calaveras on the way back, and then back in Mammoth before heading home. It will be the old fj55 and a toy pickup.

I've really beat the s*** out the fj55 this summer, so It is getting a lot of work done to bring it back to the level it was a year ago.

More questions though:

With the camping, we don't actually need permits do we?
Are we starting at the North or South side?

Here's a little description: Deer Valley

No permits required, except a fire permit, if we can still have fires at that time of year. And someone will have one of those.

We plan on being there Friday as well, hopefully in the afternoon.

:flipoff2:

See you there. Looks like Saturday, though, if the whole family is still going. Friday if just me and offspring #1. Our plans are in constant flux (fluxing plans...).

(just slap a 55 bezel on the 'runner and nobody will be the wiser)

Is there anything on Deer Valley trail that will pose a problem for my rig? It has one of those 49 gallon long range fuel tanks, so I am worried about departure angles.
