Per new member item 4:

I just joined after buying a 2004 LC. Got a new timing belt. Getting wife-required new seat covers in the front.

My major issue: I'm having radio withdrawal from my '98 4R. The LC radio w/ NAV doesn't get AM, no USB, reception seems weak, left speaker out, so phone useless. (I know - send the wahmbulance for me.)

I've done some searching, but I haven't found the best answer yet. Is there a modern replacement stereo that:
- will not interfere with other functions on the screen
- doesn't require extensive rewiring (i.e. can use the amp, etc.)
- has USB
- has hands-free phone use
- a reasonably competent car audio place can install
- a bezel or adapter to close the odd hole in the dash

Lots of the threads I've found have said, "use the search function." My search abilities appear limited.

Anyway, I look forward to participating here.

Check this out. Unfortunately, no easy options. This is the best option in my opinion but I've reached out to a couple of members for parts but no responses to date which has been super disappointing.

Alternative is to get a GROM computer thingy that tucks in the dash and matches the factory wiring. It injects your phone signal to the CD input I think. Searching GROM Aux or GROM bluetooth on amazon will find what you want.

Welcome!

I have a single din Alpine head unit

It has bluetooth, phone capable, USB, Radio...

It's not the most modern thing in the world but I can plug my phone into it and that's where all my music is.
Plus, single din allows for a cubby right below it to put your phone.

I've seen that one, but I'm not quite sure yet what all it does. I really do miss having AM in there. Some of the local stations are on both AM and FM. When the FM goes out, I can switch to AM while they get sorted.

The GROM does everything - Apple CarPlay, keeps the terrestrial radio stations, retains that 120p resolution screen. The only problem with the GROM is it's STILL glitchy. They shoot out updates (a lot) to fix glitches. But it's still glitchy... really glitchy.

Ah yeah, I was speaking of the plain unit that injects the phone output, but there's also the whole deal with apple carplay taking over your screen. My set up is GROM wire loom piggy backs the cd plug, GROM USB computer box, Grom aux adapter, aux goes into phone. If I switch to AM/FM I can get back to my phone by switching to CD/DVD. No information appears on the display (no song title, no album, etc). I have an 05 LX with Nav and Mark Levinson.
