I'm looking to find out if a newer fj 4.0 engine will mate up to my g52 tranny?
Adapter? I might try and get one for my build if it's a simple swap. Definatly more hp and torque than my 22re.
Now would be the time to do it.

What is the 4.0 out of and WTF is a 'G52' transmission?

Well, he said that the 4.0 was out of an FJ - so I'm assuming the 1GR-FE - and the G52 is one of the forward shift 5-speed transmissions that came behind a 22R in '84 to '87.

No idea on what the bellhousing pattern on a 1GR-FE is, though.

However, considering that the 22R produced just over 100hp at best and the 1GR-FE produces over 250hp, I'm going to guess that the G52 likely won't lead a long and productive life behind the swap.

I'd suggest sticking with the FJ transmission and t-case, but the t-case seems to be driver's drop. I'm guessing that you want to swap this into a second-gen pickup / first-gen 4Runner?

Your question made me curious so I looked around pretty hard to see what could be done about putting an older manual on back of that motor and came up with pretty much nothing other than people asking the same question for and r150. What I can say is that if you can get a motor with the 5speed auto “A750” marlin makes an adapter for the tranny and you can run gear driven cases behind that. For the manual 6 speed “ra61” the only thing that looks like it is available is from AA for an atlas and that trans is apparently not very reliable.

IIRC that motor ECU needs to "talk" to a lot of odd things on the FJC. Including wheel speed sensors and the "fly by wire" gas pedal....among other things. I got to that point and stopped caring about swapping this motor.

But hey figure it out. I would LOVE to run that motor in something!!
