Hey all

My year 2005 amazon (UK 100 series) 4.2 TDI sounds louder than my friends
Its more gravelly (hard to explain)

I've been searching around, and my local mech thinks it could be the injectors
Something about 2 stage springs at different PSI out of calibration

New injectors (6 of them) are crazy expensive, but In the UK i've found someone offering to service them £85 + vat....which is under half the price of new ones

However, its still a lot of money to spend
The car is in nairobi, and some of these gas stations collect water, so my concern is that water damaged them.
I'm visiting uk soon, and wondering what to do
The car drives fine, just noisey

thoughts?

In my experience with diesel, injectors can become noisy over time and a rebuild is usually an improvement. I would get them rebuilt and possibly look at adding an extra filter/water seperator.

Yes planning on the water separator!!.

So you think an injection service will make the engine quieter?

I wouldnt worry about it as liking as it starts and runs fine, when it starts smoking at start up and giving run issues I'd worry about it.
In the mean time I would add another water separator and use some injector cleaner/fuel treatment every once in awhile.

I had a 5.9 cummins 24 valve and i did a valve adjustment at 120k. There were 4 or 5 offending valves and yes the adjustment made it quieter.

It was still a rattle box neighbor waker
