I am just curious, but does anyone else here hear a noise when your truck goes over a rut or pothole in the road? Almost as if something metal is loose. I am just curious if this is something major to worry about because the ahc is still working, the car still tracks straight and rides smooth, and we just had it at the dealer for an oil change, and they always do a complementary check of everything and said it was all good, but we didn't sepcify anything about the noise. If you guys could help, would really appreciate it.

Like metal moving around, more of a rattle, almost as if metal is shaking around down there, maybe like metals bars or something.. Its only when going over ruts or potholes though

I had a cross between a sqeak and creak when going over bumps etc. ( I was also able to hear it when I shook the LC up and down). Took it to the mechanic and he immediately saw that it was the anti sway bar bushings etc. I ordered the parts and until the they came, I decided to spray them with lubricant and the noise immediately disappeared, so haven't replaced them yet!

Where are anti sway bars, or what do they look like. Sorry if its a really dumb question, but anything mechanical just really isn't my thing

One sits around and along the rear axle and the other behind the front axle. Here's a picture of a rear 4runner sway bar off the truck to give you an idea of what they look like:

They've got bushings by the frame and on the axle. Any one of those could be worn out.

Hmm, thanks for the help. Should we eve consider changing the bushings? While this truck is great, its been having its fair share of problems and its getting expensive to repair. Only 113k miles but i think we may be getting rid of it soon. While some here may not agree, we are between a gx and a cayenne.

Last time that happened to me... one of my rear seats was folded down, but I forgot to take out the plastic caps in the floor.

You are unhappy with maintenance issues and are considering going from a LC to a Cayenne. Boy...you should do some research.

Not piling on, but...what he said.

If you don't get ticked by reliability & maintenance issues, buy & drive whatever you like. If these things do concern you, and it appears they do, do your homework before you choose your next vehicle. A few years ago I was within an inch of a deal on a VW Toureg, until I did some research and realized that I didn't like the probability of large repair bills. Usually where there's smoke they're be fire, so I passed even though I loved the styling & interior of the VW SUV.

I look at it like this-- if you're buying brand new and will never own it one day beyond the warranty, buy whatever you want. If you're like me and don't buy new and under warranty, think ahead!

Get that noise solved & fixed...you'll feel a lot better.

We know people with lx's and 6 people with Cayennes and both vehicles have owners who have never had real major issues with their cars. Our neighbor has a Cayenne S with 165k miles on it and nothing mjor has gone wrong. Everyone with a Cayenne we know has said their car has been extremely reliable. Not only that, but my mom says she loves the way it looks so i don't know. Like i said, it just an option. The other is a gx470

Your data is good though it only represents that of 6 owners.

If you total the date from thousands of owners the results are dramatically different. Based on thousands of reports we know this:

**The 1998-2007 Land Cruiser was the most trouble-free large/luxury SUV every year. Yes, fewer repairs than any other competing model...and yes, every year.

**Since it's introduction the Porsche Cayenne has been in the lowest category for reliability. In fact, it currently is rated as the "worst of the worst" because the troubles have been every model year and at the extreme bottom of the pack. Key trouble areas:

Engine
Transmission
Drive system
Climate system
Power gear
Audio gear
Body parts

No thanks. They might be fast but they are a POC.

Fine...however re-read Post #1. This information could help the postee also.

Yeah, he's asking about a noise - not a Cayenne, not a LC vs. anything else. He later brought up that they're thinking about other vehicles. He did not ask your opinion on them, which you, of course, felt obliged to give.
