When Im in a fast food line, or similar situation, I have heard on several occasions now a "jack hammer rhythm" sound that happens for about 3 seconds and then fades away. THe sound is not too loud but i surmise you could easily hear it from outside the vehicle.

Any ideas what this is?

The sound almost mimicked the tone from caddyshack when the puts were rollin in.

Da, da, da, da.... da,... da

Yup, I'm certain my engine shield does this too. It's nothing to worry about, and it can be removed without repercussions. I'd really like to be able to figure out where it wears out causing this to happen. I'm guessing that a brand new truck wouldn't do this...

When my engine cover was making that noise (usually at idle @ 500rpm), I took it off and found the foam was missing. Wondering if that might have to do with it. I've thought about getting some (high temp) foam to glue back on there, but it's been 3 years since I have had it off, so it will probably just stay off.

Nice well then you may have answered my question phsycle. I'd like to keep it on personally, maybe I'll look into redoing the worn out or missing foam.

I had the same thing. Went to Lowes and purchased 12 rubber fender washers and insert between in rackets and cover. Problem solved for me.

Nice, I'll give that a shot, thanks for the tip. I bet others who find it annoying and want to keep the cover will find it useful as well.
