My trusty D70 seems to have finally cratered. I bought it used, and have used the heck out of it, it's been around the world several times before I got it (2 winters in Antarctica), so I guess I can't complain. It has been giving me errors occasionally, but lately it's gotten a lot worse. It has totally trashed the contents of 2 different CF cards, so I can no longer trust it.

So, now I hafta decide, should I have it fixed, or just get another one. Anybody ever sent a camera in to Nikon for repair? I can find D70's on eBay for $150-200. Wondering how much a repair would cost...

Anybody ever sent a camera in to Nikon for repair?

I sent in a D90 under warranty, and they fixed it super quick and sent it right back and it has worked perfectly ever since - didn't cost me a dime so I can't tell you how expensive their non-warranty service is.

Have a ~6 year old D50 that we took to a local camera repair shop (rotary switch was inop), it was beyond their capability, so they sent it to Nikon. Nikon charged $160, IIRC. Works perfectly now.

along those lines, does anybody know of a good place where you can buy Nikon OEM parts, like plug caps, battery hole door etc?

edit: finally found a place that carries some of the minor parts: bocaphoto.com
