Newest 100 I can afford or does it really matter?

I always buy the cleanest, rust free-ist, best priced 100 series that becomes available. Regardless of year.

One caveat: the 5-speed trans is much better than the 4-speed (but doesn't include better fuel economy, so who cares?) Also, 5-speed trans comes with built-in wonky NAV. I guess, the dream 100 is a vvt with no factory NAV. Does that even exist?
That is exactly why I am a fan of the 98. No ugly nav taking up dash space.

We've had our Amazon Blue 100 Series since it was brand new in a rust belt state. It's a 03 with 306k miles on the clock. We maintain it well and, it gets serviced at the dealer too. It's funny because at the dealership, the maintenance department loves our cruiser so much, they are willing to buy it off of us at a loss, restore it, use it as a DD!

The only big repair we've had is that the T-hose broke after 302k miles. Otherwise, it has run like a champ and it lasts a long time! Even more impressive, my family pushes it hard through various snowstorms and aggressive driving and, it still chugs on!

I would personally prefer one without a GPS. It has climate control, a radio, and GPS integrated into one unit. In ours old age, it freezes and, displays the error dvd check in progress.

Overall, Land Cruisers are safe, durable and fun to drive. The 2UZ-FE V8 makes a snarl that puts a smile on your face ;)! Hope you can find one that suits your needs and, welcome to the ih8mud community! :)

Yes, I have one. Not sure if the US had that option though, mine came from Mexico. They pop up every once in a while but the few others I've seen have come from outside the US as well. They are out there. No AHC either.

To come to think about it, one of my friends has a 100 similar to yours. It's also a 105 series. They've owned it since it was brand new also.

Anyways Last month, I commuted with her to go on a long road trip. At first, I thought her navigation unit was disconnected and, would not display any image at all. However, the girl changed the radio station and, the radio station screen lit up the LCD screen on the center console. I questioned the girl when the screen turned back off again and, asked her if the navigation was broken. She mentioned how she doesin she doesn't remember her parents using the navigation at all. After that, I kept thinking if somehow, her Land Cruiser was unique.

Ironically too, her's comes with the wood grained dashboard. One of these days, I have to ask where they got it. Very interesting story :)

Does your cruiser have a wood grained interior just like hers?

I would purchase the best 100 series with the least amount of rust possible you can find. Maint records are good. Recent tb/wp changes are better. I would travel to find the right one as well. After growing up in a rust belt state I now live in Arizona and will NEVER buy another rusty vehicle. Just tooany downsides. These trucks will last a half million miles with minimal care. Buy enjoy. Dont worry about a $1k difference if it's what you want.

Yup, but mines a VVTi V8 '06. I believe the 105's have a 1FZ-E.

I have a 2005 that is approaching 140k. Had everything baselined at around 120k, even though it had a perfect Lexus documented history. I had Slee get rid of the AHC and install a 2" OME lift and his rock sliders, just because it makes it look better. Mine is rust free, and I live 3 miles from a new Lexus dealer. If I have the oil changed or do anything to my LX the dealer gives me a free Lexus to drive. I drive around 5k miles a year, so in 12 years I will either be dead or my beast will have 200k miles on it. Either way it will be the cheapest least hassled form of transportation I have ever owned. Plus it will still have plenty of life remaining. Guess I am trying to say is get one that is rust free since that or getting hit by a Semi trailer truck is about the only thing that will kill a 100 series. Has you can see by the number of 100's I'ved owned in my signature it's taken me awhile to figure this out. I also owned a 2011 LX570 with 29k miles on it. After taking it on a 5000+ vacation drive through the west I sold it when I got home. Why it's like driving a Luxury car, way to nice of a ride to enjoy the driving experience. to me the 100 series is the sweet spot and 2003-2005 is the sweet spot within the sweet spot.

I drove a 98' today! It drove extremely well. Everything seemed tight, smooth, and solid. The bad....rust. Wasn't the worst I've seen around these parts but definitely would require some serious attention to stop whats going on.

I'm hoping to grab ahold of one and never let it go! I fully planned on keeping my 1st gen tacoma, until my twins came along...

OK taco I have been down this road with my 96 runner 2 dogs 2 kids and northeast rust. I ended up getting my 2000 lc on e-bay and had it shipped because there is limited selection here without rust or 250k The way I see it pay less for an older one without nav and ahc then spend the extra on customizing. Stuff does wear out over time. In ct we have annual vehicle tax too. I did give up my child anchors and side air bags going to a 2000. My kids carseats will probly wreck the seats too after 5 years.TE="sean2202, post: 10128227, member: 115089"][/QUOTE]
Ok

Thanks everybody for your help. I ended up scooping one up locally. It's an 04 Blizzard Pearl with 146k. Has ALL maintenance records through lexus dealers and very clean. There is some surface rust on some of the components underneath but the frame, upper and lower control arms, front and rear diff's, and all rear suspension components are in great shape. Actually most everything underneath is in great shape. The two things that will need some serious attention are the gas tank skid (if you wanna call it a skid), and the inside of the rear bumper. Its nothing a little time, a couple brushes, and a qt of KBS can't take care of. As soon as I can figure out how, I'll get some pics up and formally introduce myself. Thanks again.... Oh and I've already started mod'ing. I tackled the "Fog light on with brights" mod today. Just the beginning......

Congrats!

I'm not a fan of aftermarket rims, but those actually look quite good! Congrats - nothing better than brand spanking used!

I still don't understand the fascination with low mileage cruisers. Buy it cheap and drive the s#!t out of it. It's a LAND CRUISER, they go forever (ish). You guys act like they're gonna fall apart three years after you buy it... a clean, rusty free '04? Freaking do it! The '04 has significant upgrades, especially if you're towing? Can't find maintenance records? Who cares? You're gonna baseline it anyway. Talk 'em down in price for no history, and go. We tow horses, and the '04 >>>> '00. Both mine are over 200K, well 199+ and 236k, and the '04 went cross country last summer with the wife and kids solo.

well said Rob. If you look at auctions and for sale ads, there are quite a few close to 400K, many over 300K. It's proven to be better than the 1FZ IMO.
