Wanted Newbie in search of first FJ40

Well,

With both kids almost out of college I have decided to reward myself with an FJ40.

I have never owned one but have had Jeeps and EB's. I have always loved the look of the FJ40 and thought I would start here with a WTB request.

Ideally would like a solid weekend driver that is mechanically sound and reliable. I have looked at a few online, but most are from dealers and have very high price tags. I'm trying to stay in that $8-12k range.

If your viewing my request and have an FJ that your not using much and want it to go to a good home please shoot me a message. Doesn't have to be perfect or restored, but not looking for a project either. Don't mind a few cosmetics but I'm not very mechanical so a solid reliable driver is preferred....oh and no rust...or very little.

No, don't have one for sale. Have been through just about every situation imaginable in my obsessive quest for a 40...would have thrown in the towel a long time ago had it not been for MUD support. I was just going to say good luck and use patience, something I'm learning!

Also a quick update to my search......

Ideally would like something more stock than off road, I will be using it 99% of the time just around town.

No column shifter, must be floor shifter. Prefer a hard top but soft tops are fine also.

I am willing to increase my budget for the right FJ, if its rust free, reliable, and basically refurbished don't mind spending a little more. I like the later models, but again not being to picky on the year. Not looking for a project, been there done that. Just want to enjoy the FJ not refurbish one.

my '76 FJ40

RMally, I have a beautiful 76 that is built to be bullet proof. I have owned the Cruiser for over 20 years. It is extremely well maintained with original Toyota parts. I haven't wheeled it in over five years. Their are many people in Knoxville that know me and my Cruiser. I wheeled GSMTER for 14 yrs. straight. It is a little more than what your price range is but you would have to do nothing to it. If you would buy another truck you would wind up spending more money on it to change, improve, repair it. It literally has had everything that you can do to a Cruiser already done to it. All the work is very high quality and done by me or highly qualified close friends. This truck has literally been a 20 year project and their is no other Cruiser like it. You could drive it on the road every day and take it to some extreme wheeling. The truck has great street manners. Take a look at it. We may not be as far apart as you might think. I want it to go to a really good home. bbaxter@cox.net

Your 40 looks great but I am looking for a more stock version. I've never cared for the full roll bars (although safer) but I'm a pavement dweller most the time. Also love the stock seats and interior, which yours could be put back but after all that probably puts it out of my price range.....also would need a hardtop.

I'm working on one in the Arizona area but its so hard to buy sight unseen. I'm waiting for a few more photos and video before making any decision.

Thank you for responding to my ad, I did enjoy reading all about your rig. If I were at windrock most weekends I'd be all over it.

Well.......I found a 40. I was initially looking for a complete 40 that didn't need much work but decided to take this winter and do a project. I found one 3 hours away that is very solid (ok, it has some minor issues but runs great and has great bones). I also got it for way less than my budget so can start pumping money into her soon.

It was originally $9,500 but we settled on $5,000.

I thought it was a very fair deal at 5k but this is my first so nothing to compare it with......Thoughts ?

I have about $7k to put in it so in the end it should be a very nice 40.
