Hello everyone, I am new to this site and new to the TLC. I have owned 4x4's since 1985. My first was a 1979 Chev. LUV 2WD that I converted to 4WD my senior year in High School. I have had a 1984 S-15 4x4, 1989 S-15 4x4, 1995 Chev.3500 SRW 4x4, 1996 Chev.3500 srw 4x4, 1997,1500 4x4, 2000 GMC 2500HD 4x4 and currently a 2004 Chev.2500HD CC D/A 4x4. I also had a 1979 CJ-5 from 1995-2009 as a play vehicle.

But this will be my first Toyota play vehicle. I am picking up a 1994 FJ80 with 192,000 miles tomorrow. It was built late 1994 (10/94) and it has lockers. This seller has said the Birfields are making a clicking noise when turning shape, so I guess these will be one of the first repairs. I am sure I will be doing a lot of reading on here. Anyway here are some pictures, let me know what you think. Thanks Herb

Hey double u,

Welcome to the site from Tennessee.

I'm fairly new to it also, but mighty glad I found it.

The LC looks good.

Sounds like you have some mechanical work to do, but this is definitely the place to be for info and advice.

Good luck.

Hey welcome !!! Im less than a year in learning everyday!!! Check the FAQ (button at top) for a good write up on the birfields

Looks pretty clean and great color! I'd get to work on the birfs right away, give CruiserDan a call and mentioning the Mud forum will get you very nice discount.

I'm not sure if you've negotiated the price yet, but with the seller admitting the birf clicking make sure you get a lot off the price for it. A front axle rebuild is likely to cost well over $1000 at a shop and that wouldn't include new birfs if they are damaged.

Welcome to MUD!

Howdy

Welcome on board:clap:!Great color!
In despite that your wallet will be always empty because of gasoline price, you will not be disappointed for your choice :hillbilly: :grinpimp: !

Based on your experience, I'd say your first job is to get a good set of metric tools! Welcome.

I beleve that is a 1995 by the build date. Look up th vin #.

Welcome:flipoff2:

Thanks for all of the comments. The color is not my favorite but it will have to do. I do plan on doing all the work that I can myself, there weren't many things on the jeep that I didn't do. Springs over axles, swapped axles to Scout d44's, ring and pinions, tilited knuckles for (+) caster, body work (except paint) ,T-18 transmission short input shaft kit, bumpers, etc. I do have a few metric tools and sure I will need more.

Welcome :flipoff2:

Looks like the pass-side quarter panel has been hit.

Yes it has and more than that after I was able to go see it in person. The birfields were making way more noise than he had told me and caked with grease. He had pressure washed the whole under side and engine "so whoever bought it could see it was not leaking oil" REAL REASON was to clean off all the oil it was leaking. He would not let me engage the front locker because "he was afraid it may damage the joint more. Which may be true....said it thru a code after (not sure which one) after he changed the fuel filter, but he showed me how to pull the fuse to reset it if it was to do it with me. For some reason he made sure the tank was full of gas even though I was going to trailer it.

Needless to said I didn't buy it. I knew it had some problems, but they were worse than I expected.

If anyone is interested let me know and I'll give you details. He wants $3200. Its a 1994 with lockers and rust free. He put it on a lift and I couldn't find any rust on the frame or body.
