hi guys, names jason, from New Zealand.

i got my first cruiser about a year ago and done i little bit to it.
33x12.5 on 15x10 rims
added a safari snorkle
9500 24volt bull winch

pretty much keen to give any trail ago. ill post up some pics when i have some spare time.

any way, at the moment i have been offerd a 350 chev.

im running a 3.4L diesel at the moment, and i know these are great motors just slow on the hills, and i want a bit more grunt.

if i go ahead with this, will i need to replace my gearbox and everything else? or should the stock gear handle it?

and if so, is there a great place online you would recomend i buy from.

thanks for your help, feel free to ask any questions, take it easy though, im new to wheeling;)

sadly im not very mechanicly minded of have much experience.
so all the advice the beter.
is there a link that i can follow this up ?

i do lots of mud and steep hills, and want to upgrade to 35s in the near future, will the diesel put up with all the abuse? its non turbo

With a diesel maybe you can never get the same rev's on tires .. but with turbo be sure you get much more fun ! note necesari a gassser swap .. but it's always up to you ..

Check in the AA ( advance adapters ) web for adapters ..

I stuck a chev in my truck a while back. The chevs fity well and are easy to do with a conversion kit, Dellow or Marks adaptors are available in NZ. The diesel gearboxes have a longer input shaft than a petrol gearbox so make sure you get the right bellhousing kit.

I used a dellow kit and the gearbox stayed in the same place so I didnt have to muck around with gearbox mounts and drive shaft lengths. The bell housing picked up all the cruiser bits, clutch fork, slave cylender, rubber boots etc :) . You put a chev power steer pump on the engine and get the hose guy to plumb it in for you. You'll probably need block hugger headers to get the pipes down inside the chassis rails, I couldn't use the rams horn manifolds on mine.

A nice easy conversion :bounce:

have fun trying to keep it from flooding, unless you're not going to 4x4 seriously with it... after having a 305 in my old 40, and now with the 3B in my 73, I sure dont miss the V8 ( on the trails, anyway... )

unless its fuel injected forget it... for a trail rig anyways...

Don't piss away your money unless its fuel injected. Otherwise step up to a larger (turbo) diesel.

ive taged along with a few, and when they stall on a steep slope, they hate starting. means they arnt fuel injected?

and yeah, after a bit of research turbo is where im heading now

More than likely.

I used to have a little cummins the same displacement as the 3B, except it was factory turbo'd. It pushed my FJ55 down the road quite well. Between the V8 truck and the diesel truck, the diesel was the prefered engine on and off road.

what a shame for a cruiser to not have a diesel, and by choice yet... wow Go with the 13BT - it will idle you up rough, rocky, STEEP slopes without even straining ( with 4cyl yet ) - set the choke and sit back and enjoy... then you can watch the sorry dude with the V8 follow you, and try not to laugh at him. Sure, he will run circles around you at the mud hole, if he has enough fuel...

which cummins . ? coz the 4BT it's a 3.9 lt and 3B it's a 3.5 lt.
