FINALLY have ALL my parts ordered and on their way, pads and speedo cable coming form CCoT, found calipers and rotors locally, all my new brake lines and new spindle nuts, seals, etc. coming from John Hocker..... Hoping everything arrives before this weekend. :)

good luck dave. lots of fun with that PM. if you get it installed will the pig be streetable? what will still remain?

The brakes are the majority of the necessary work. After that:

• Couple of small floor holes to patch (fiberglass)
• Cap the bottoms of the rear rockers (metal)
• New gaskets between exhaust pipes and manifold (10 min. job)
• Clean a few electrical connections and grounds, replace a lens or 2.
• Install new ebrake shoes & hardware (have the parts already)
• Install speedo cable

My "gas leak" is a conundrum... no more fumes since I ran the gas down a bit, hoping I find a loose hose at the top of the tank when I'm cleaning out the rear rockers, but I actually don't think it's a big issue assuming I don't try to keep the tank topped up. ;) Fingers crossed

I plan to have it at Kina's next month for the run, not sure it will wheel anything harder then Class VI's but I'll be there. :)

There's a zillion little projects I want to do to her down the road, but that should get me inspected and safe.

Wished I'd had a more productive pig weekend but my packages from Sierra Toyota and CCoT didn't arrive before the holiday.

Worked on stripping out the wires for the extra lights, no biggie there.

Pulled 1 exhaust pipe off the manifold and think I'll have to have an exhaust shop do some rerouting. Even if I got it properly gasketed and tight each pipe hits something... the dside hits the front leaves and the pside hits the parking break. (straight duals from the SBC)

I'd like to pull off my front clip and hood to sand and paint but when I tried to pull off my fenders but couldn't figure out how to unhook the turn signals. Anyone have a tip? What am I not seeing??

I need to order my FSM* but will that give me step by step for this sort of disassembly/reassembly stuff?

Any input would be appreciated, thanks.

Dave

* Found this for a FSM source..... Manuals are obtained directly from the Toyota Material Distribution Center in Torrance, CA at 1-800-622-2033." from Cdan

Dave, I got my FSM for my diesel from SOR. I'm sure they are more expensive, but they have quite a list of them. I kind of got mine on a whim purchase with a bunch of other stuff. I was actually going to order the body and chassis one from them too. I'd be interested to hear how expensive or in expensive they are direct from Toyota. I will say as I've been wading through the diesel engine I got it has been a total help! I bet the body and chassis one will be as well.

I read something on Mud here about Birfield.com having them as downloads, but since I've been looking the site is down and being moved or something so I can't confirm that. Its been down for like 2 months. Maybe someone else can chime in here if you know about it.

Spent a few hours under the truck tonight. New soft line done on the pass-side. Need to get the short hard line that runs along the axle tomorrow as the old one was almost flat in one spot, then that will be done.

Got sick of waiting for CCoT to send my pads so the local dealership will have those tomorrow morning as well as fresh snap rings and I'm hoping they can provide the hard line I need, its really simple, only 1 bend. If not I'm hoping a local auto parts store can make one up for me (my fittings are fine and reusable).

After that I'll button up the hubs, put on the the calipers and that short line and start bleeding.

Then she's FINALLY be out of the garage so I can do the other small projects it needs pre-legality. Probably go down to the DMV Thursday and officially swap my plates.

Slow pig progress but my kitchen is flying along, got half the cabinets in today, looks amazing. :)

Well, this is finally the big weekend, with the kitchen remodel nearly done I've been promised ;) a big chunk of garage time to get the old girl rolling again. All the parts are on hand and ready to go.

Assuming this issue doesn't bite be in the butt: https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=159566

.... I hope to have her 90% road ready by Sunday night... with a zillion other little, less important, projects still to finish of course.

I still need to get a new Lfront shock mount/steering box mount from Kina.

I have a steering box mount

Productive weekend, but not nearly as productive as I'd hoped.

Gary (rabovt) totally hooked me up with the steering box/shock mount. Got it painted and we'll see how quickly that process goes throughout the week. THANKS GARY!!!!

I've got the brakes on minus 1 caliper bolt which was messed up. I'll get one from the dealership today or tomorrow when I pick up my cone washers, etc. Did I mention my truck had no cone washers on it?!

Still to go....

• Put in last caliper bolt
• Hook up small hard lines to calipers
• Fill and bleed front brakes
• Grind out bolts for steering box bracket, replace with new bracket and new hardware.
Pull rear drums and assess, clean and adjust if ok, do a RDB if they are junk
• Put in new ebrake hardware (includes drain and refill of tcase & trans)
• Install exhaust donuts as temp fix, exhaust needs to be completely rerouted.
• Patch a few small floor holes
• New Tstat gasket, coolant flush.
• Change engine & diff oils
• Install speedo cable.
• I'm sure I'm forgetting stuff....

I finally gathered all my hub hardware today so that stuff can get buttoned up. Then I can finally pull it out of the garage bleed the brakes, and pressure wash underneath... then start the steering box mount switch.

NO chance now that I'll get the Pig to Kina's this weekend, but I'll be there Saturday bright and early to tag along anyway. :)

Dave, you don't look/sound to good, better call in sick and rest for a couple of days. (on a creeper under the Pig)

48 hour flu blowing up the river from Springfield, you should stay inside

SO MUCH PROGRESS TODAY!!!

Besides grouting my kitchen floor, I managed to finish installing my brakes AND replace the steering box/shock mount. :)

To my surprise, all the bolts holding that bracket on came right out. There are supposed to be 4 bolts holding the steering box to the bracket, mine only had 2. Yikes! So tomorrow I'll get another one downtown (hopefully) and finished that up.

Pside is all done, Dside is waiting on a new snap ring, The one I got from the dealership is too big. :( I'll get fluid into it tomorrow and see if it leaks or holds tight.

Finally, a good Piggie day, and hopefully tomorrow will be just as fruitful.

replaced the 2 piece speedo cable with the new 1 piecer, fit great. Took a bit to get the dash cluster out but I figured it out eventually.

I loosened the steering column enough that I could finally get to the back of the dash, took some finesse though. ;)

I managed to burst the bulb that lights the left side gauge cluster so I need to replace that, probably replace all the bulbs as long as I have it apart. :) :)

Also painted the grill and headlight buckets black, looks mean... I like it. :)

Pulled the rest of the aux exterior light wires, much cleaner now. After the PO did the V8 conversion he left a lot of loose ends that go no where, I'm going to pul out what I can and clean up the engine bay as much as possible.

Diagnosed my coolant drip, the top rad hose is too short adjust barely leaking at the tstat on top of the block. I just need to replace that hose.

With all my extra days off this week I'm looking forward to getting it out of the garage so I can address the issues in the rear.. rear drums, ebrake, gas "leak" issue, cleaning and patching floor.

The floor... ugh... may require a bit more patching then I thought. Found a local welder/fabricator and may take it to him for some real patches. Nothing fancy, just some strong metal. We'll see what it looks like once I can get it out of the garage and pull the seats.

What a great weekend. :) :)

thats great dave! i cant wait to see that beast out on the trail... i know it will be a while but whatever, still something to look forward to. all this work you are getting done must be rewarding.
