What are your impressions?

besides the upgraded suspension, most of the changes are visual.

I kinda like the "TOYOTA" old school logo on the grill...thoughts?

Very underwhelming in my opinion. Unless I missed it, no rear locker?

Way less than I was hoping for; way more than I was expecting.

agreed. I was also hoping the locker would be standard. It can be ordered but not part of the package

On the Tundra? Or are you referring to the Taco/4runner?

I jumped the gun. TRP packages usually come with an electronic rear locker but being that it was just released from the Chicago Auto show, there are no build details released yet and I cant get any info from Toyota. Im sure more details will be released in the next couple of weeks.

More soulless Toyota TuRD's.. Maybe its time for a TRD Prius??
Next thing you knbow they will build Toyotas in Mexico....opps too late...

I think the real "secret sauce" is the TRD floor mats...

I need to get me some of that

Meh. Unless it's a Raptor, Power Wagon, or Rubicon, it seems like all these "Off Road" packages are all the same: Stickers, yellow shocks, a few other decidedly non-necessary (floor mats, really?) doo-dads.

The front suspension lift is the only real thing I can see that is worthwhile.

Edit: Looks like the shocks are actually better. Larger and remote reservoir. So that's good.

I agree, I like the TOYOTA on the grille.

This replaces/ adds to the Baja package Tacoma from 2012 and 13. That was a $40k Tacoma. Mostly appearance stuff that drives up the price. Good looking 4runner though. I'd still go with the trail edition.

Definitely disappointed once i saw the specs. If it was a trail edition 4runner with those upgrades, I'd be a little more interested.

I wish Toyota would give us some red meat. Something in a short wheelbase solid axle rig with power.

Toyota, there is a market for something along a 40 with coil springs and lockers all around. PLEASE feed us!

Agreed, TURD... No rear locker... Where have all the real Toyota Engineers gone?

Have they said what models these are based off of, specifically the 4Runner? We're in the market for a 2014 4R and I know the Trail models come with ATRAC and rear e-locker. The only thing that excited me about the TRDs is the new reddish color and the grills. Aside from that it was a big letdown.

I imagine they'll want a $8k premium for the new badges and floor mats.

Dear Jan (Toyota)

I have had five 4Runners, three Land Cruisers, an FJ Cruiser, two Tacomas and a Tundra.

You folks need to wake up here and listen. I do NOT have a Prius.
Comprende?

I can move in a whole new direction if deserted........

Are 4runners the new Land Cruiser going forward?
Does Paul May, owner of Equipt have great vision?
Toyota needs something to get back in the game....

I think you are spot on.

My only issue is with all of the electronics in the new 4runner. If something fails in the back country then you are screwed, where as with an 80 there is just not that much electronics to fail.

With parts becoming discontinued for the 80 I think the trail edition 4runner or a taco with rear locker will be the way to go if you want to stick with the Toyota brand.

I personally will not replace my 80 with another when a major component fails.

I will move to either a taco or 4runner if I stay with Toyota. Honestly the diesel wrangler coming out will be intriguing, but I love oil burners. Also, the new bronco could be very cool.

If you read through Beno's post you will see him constantly saying that Toyota is becoming the new GM. So all things being equal does that warrant a look at other manufactures ? I think so. If the reliably of Toyota is declining then why shouldn't I look at a jeep rubicon diesel or a bronco.

If they do offer a rear locker I'd say it's worthy, the red is pretty cool also with the TOYOTA grille
