I'm enjoying reading the posts on this forum, seems like a lot of good experience and knowledge from y'all.

I recently purchased a slightly used (28000km) 2015 76 that was pretty well equipped by its previous owner.

It has a 1HZ with an AXT low boost turbo limited to 10psi and an tube intercooler supplied by them as well. springs, unknown leafs, giving it a 2-3" lift. Old man Emus, a sturdy rear bumper, 1700$??? window tints, comeup winch, 70l stainless water tank, roof rack, baloon tyres, LEDs, etc.

Love the thing, just mostly concerned about how to get a bit more power out of her whilst preserving the engine. Also interested in some flaps and flares to keep the spray down (the tyres stick out quite a bit as they have spacers). Any advice would be appreciated.

Maybe try a Jaos dealer in you area (assuming there is one).if not find a cruiser specialist and see what their catalogs have?

You already have a pretty good setup for getting safe reliable power out of a 1HZ. The biggest thing would be making sure that it is tuned up properly. You could turn up the boost from the turbo more but there is a big debate about how much is safe. Either way an exhaust temp gauge can go along way towards protecting the engine.

Check out the Diesel tech portion of the forum for information on tuning up the 1HZ:

Hello,

A 1HZ with a low pressure (up to 10 psi) turbo is a good compromise between power and reliability. Extra power at little cost that will last a lifetime, and will not leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Higher boost is simply more heat than the engine can handle without heavy modifications.

Additional horses are usually thirsty, and they gallop at the engine's expense.

Make sure you have an exhaust temperature gauge as mentioned above.

My advice is to get rid of the junky HZJ76.

In the spirit of Cruiser karma, I'll take one for the team and, if you'll cut it in half, put in two seperate containers and ship to me, I'll properly compensate you for your investment, so you can find one with a better engine......

Lol.

Thanks for the tips everyone.

I like the engine, not so fast, but simple and straightforward with good reputation for longevity if you don't push it. Sounds sweet with the 3in Magnaflow exaust and turbo whine. What's so bad about it?

@Abdullah .... "I like the engine, not so fast, but simple and straightforward with good reputation for longevity if you don't push it."

The word "fast" and "Toyota diesel" should not be used in the same sentence in the first place. Land Cruisers are "get you there" vehicles, not "get you there quickly" vehicles. :)
