I’ve drifted over from the fzj80. Planning to replace my wife’s sienna with a truck/suv. I drove the new body 4Runner and really didn’t like it or the ergonomics of the console.

we found a 2014 sequoia nearby that wasn’t terribly priced, which according to Carfax was originally sold in Illinois and then went to Florida. Now it is in Georgia.

I looked all under the vehicle in low light and it did t seem like there was a lot of rust. I did notice these components on the driver and passenger sides had rust on them.

What and where should I be looking on this truck for rust? I drove it and the ride was pretty amazing.

Looking over diagrams. This piece appears to be a transfer case mount?

That’s not bad but show us more. Some frame pics and anywhere you see rust.
What I see can be cleaned and sprayed with fluid film.

I’ll be going tomorrow afternoon. They said they could put it up on a rack for me to poke around. Are there hot spots to focus on?

Look at the sheet metal underneath, rockers, etc. Wheel wells, any area that catches debris and can sit and rot. The frame: look for delamination and bubbles.

Any area that looks too far gone to respond to a good power wash and Fluid Film spray would be a no go. Rust never sleeps.

I’d echo @Weedhopper ’s post.

I‘m nowhere near a rust expert on cars, but what I know in petro-chem refineries we had a specific locking brush-on primer, but in the auto world POR-15 or the spray-can rust converters (Name slips me, it‘ll happen  )

-I’d bring a good LED flashlight & a flat 8-10” screwdriver to scratch any rust, but for you but also a silent ‘I see it’ - exactly how car lot deal-makers touch each dent or scratch with you watching, a visual cue they are seeing flaws.

On the backside, as long as the underside fasteners aren’t all rusted POS’s - Woolwax or if these guys are anywhere near you-

-I hear they have a good rep, but I’m no regular combatant in the rust game.

How many miles, trim level, price asked?

Roger that. I’ve got some bright COB lights and I’ll bring a poker.

These are the worst spots I saw

That’s nothing a wire brush and good paint won’t fix. But I am from CT and salt. Someone from Arizona may think differently.

If I was buying that truck I would pressure wash it at a car wash, spray it with fluid film and be done with it.

I’m pretty impressed - ‘Yotas hate anything but a ‘low-sodium diet’.

Esp if you plan to not go mod-crazy, that’s worth thinking about, price depending.

Bought it. $25k 2014 with 88k miles

Bueno!

Is a SR5 Seq cloth interior like a Tundra?
Color combo?

Take a pic of the cluster area, SR5’s delete some functions that rhe harnesses are ready for the switches - the display on the dash esp, controlled by 3or4 buttons R of the cluster.

If you have sonar, it’s that button cluster ;)

This has the "convenience" package or the "comfort" package. The microdealer called it by both names. So it has leather seats and some other goodies.

I'll get pictures for you, I am still learning a lot about this truck. It has been one of my wants for a while, besides ALL the landcruisers.

NICE truck! The white looks awesome! Enjoy !

White Toyota Trucks is my jam!

When I sold Toyota's they told us in the training process that WHITE and RED got 6 coats of paint and all other colors got 4.

Nice Sequoia! We have 2014 limited, I much prefer the body matched rear hatch, door handles and mirrors on the sr5 to the chrome pieces on the limited and platinums.

The sequoias have the best transfercases of 3 (tundras, sequoias, and 200s). You can run it 2wd, AWD, 4hi or 4lo.

This is an SR5 Premium - so I got some fancy things and leather. I really do like the color matched stuff too. I do wish it had power fold mirrors, that'd be fantastic in my narrow garage. I have to pull in with one mirror folded.

Thanks for pointing that out, I was reading about the center diff lock and it wasn't clicking with me why there was a center diff lock.
I got out and actuated the 4HI, but got a blinking light. So I kept flipping it on and off at low speed (idle rolling) and eventually it stayed on. I need to find some gravel to exercise all the features to make sure they all work.

There is also AUTO-LSD which if I am not mistaken is just the brakes clamping on slipping tires? is that 4 wheels or just rear wheels?

There is an ENVIROGUARD NG sticker on the windshield which makes me think there was something applied to the paint/fabric/underbody when new? That might explain how this thing isn't a rust bucket. Anyone familiar with this coating?

As I keep poking around and learning more, I am seeing why these are so hard to find. It is as easy to love as my 80 series. Don't tell her that I really dig having a V8. HA!
