Hey guys. Just found this board tonight. I'm in Morrisville, couple of miles off of 40. I have a '78 FJ40...in progress. I'm second owner and it was my dd for about 4-5 years in college. Now, I'm gettin' her trail worthy. Right now, I'm cutting rust and POR15'n the tub. Hope to get Saginaw on this summer, or mabybe SM420 - haven't decided yet. Want to have her ready for a late fall Uwharrie trip. Anyhoo, here is a link to some pics. Rear sill is getting done in May and hope to have the tub Durabak'd by the end of June. If you're in the area, drop me a line...would love to get together with some fellow 'Cruiser heads. I'm guessing from reading the other posts, a good portion of you will be wrapped up in some 'Chilly Water' this weekend! Awsome.

Welcome, i am in that area quite often might have to meet up some time, some of us try and get together somewhat regularly here in raleigh, to meet for beers and a little cruiser talk, keep an eye on the board as we will probably try and get together the weekend after we get back from uwharrie

Again welcome

Welcome.

I just recently did the same thing to the tub of my '77. It was a lot of work. I sanded out the inside, patched a couple holes, and lined it with "Herculiner". It looks great and so far works well. I think the "Duraliner" is probably a better product but they had the "Herculiner" at Sam's Club so I bought it. The bed liner was the easiest part and only a took a few hours but the grinding and sanding took forever. Good luck.

Sounds great SC62. Drop me a PM and I will send my numbers etc.

John, I know what you mean about the grinding and sanding. Did you apply the bedliner over a rust encapsulator or right on the bare metal. I'm still tryin' to figure out how all the sheet metal pieces fit together so I can replace the cancered stuff. I'm in Fayetteville area quite a bit, maybe I could come see yours sometime.

Welcome

mmm I live in morrisville too. Right across the street from that new Harris Teeter. Anyways. I have a Blue FJCruiser so if you see me running around without one of the front bumper silver fins that's me.. long story got sandwiched and some minor damage happened

Truth is, I really did not know what I was doing but it turned out OK anyway. I used naval jelly and a few other rust products and then used a paint over rust spray. I primed it as well. You can stop by anytime.

Mtweller, Whenever you stop by down here at bragg you are welcome to come by my house and see what i am / have done with my trucks.

I'll give a holler when I'm down that way.

If anyone needs some metal cut, I'm renting a plasma torch next weekend to try and get a jump statrt on my rust repairs. Just let me know and you can swing by and use the thing.
