I think this sucker is a little bit of an upgrade from my Miller 175. I figured it was pretty serious when the Miller site lists "shipbuilding" as of its target industries.
Came with 30 ft or so of welding cable, new Tweco stinger and a couple of Tweco ground clamps. Need to find a water cooled tig torch w/ foot pedal setup for it. Eventually want to add a wire feed attachment and sell my Miller 175.
Layed my first stick beads last night with some 6011 rod I've had laying around. Not as difficult as I expected, I guess because I've been MIG welding for awhile and got a lot of hours TIG'in this summer.
Since I'm new to stick welding, there's a lot to learn. Anyone got any good recommendations on sources for general info?
Also, where would the best places be to look for the TIG/MIG attachments? Definitely can't afford to get them from the local welding shop.
Anyone know what the "Arc Control" knob on the left does?
Need a cheap source for electrodes. Would like to buy a variety of sizes and types to try em out and practice.
EDIT: After a little more reading, figured out the Arc Control knob, and it looks like this CC only model does not do Mig. Still want to get a Tig setup for it ASAP. Never tried Lift-Arc or Scratch start, curious to see how they compare to the high frequency start I'm used to.
