Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, eh!
So this is our little tour truck for showing people how the Water Buffalo live on our farm. I figured this truck would be a wee bit better for that then my 80. Its a 2003 79 series with a 1hz diesel

Problem is, I got this truck from a mine up here in Ontario (well, off a friend who got it from a mine), and those guys are notorious for cobbling s*** together.
At this point I'm having a problem with starting it. I have a MASSIVE draw on the glow plug cycle and a bunch of parasitic draw while its off.
What I'm looking to do is remove all the mine s***e and leave whatever is needed to have the truck start and run. So i need to know what that stuff is. Starter (solenoid, motor, etc), Glow plug, Alternator, oil pressure, Fuel shutoff solenoid?

Thanks in advance guys!!

Is it a Miller Technology mine truck? I just tore apart my 75. The wiring on mine was a complete replacement by the mine company. No fuses but instead it had circuit breakers. Is yours the same?

Same idea but the company that did these trucks was MPI. I've eliminated most/All of there influence in the start circuit (as best as I can tell without a schematic), I've even went as far as jumping power straight to the starter motor and solenoid only to have it crank SUPER slow and drag the battery right down. I'm going to remove the starter and bench test it, hopefully thats my problem (or one of them at least)

If she's a farm truck your safe to hard wire everything that's not working the best thing about old diesels is they only needed one wire to shut them down everything else is just luxury.

Yep, just for the farm. I pulled the starter and bench tested it. Friggen thing smoked my 8 gauge test leads. So its in being rebuilt. Hopefully that solves at least some of my problems. hahaha

I like that tub on the back, looks useful. What kind of water buffalo are they, different to ones in OZ (which are se asian)?

So no-one has any insight to my starting issue? I changed the starter so the battery draw is gone. it rolls over nice now, but seems to kick out power at about 3 seconds on the key. Also doesn't start.
Is there a shutoff solenoid on this or an oil pressure switch or something I'm missing? Glow plugs are bad. MASSIVE draw on them, I disconnected them to see if she'd at least fire without

Ok, I got it to fire. One or more of the Glow plugs are sh!t. Truck WILL NOT start without them. So I jumped the rail directly to the battery and the Effer starting in less then one turn. As for it dropping power, I have no idea... it hasn't done it again. I'm still going to eliminate all nonvital wires to make this thing as simple as possible.
SHES READY FOR THE LONG WEEKEND TOURS!!!!!

Generally, a 1HZ will fire without glow plugs, but it takes a 30? seconds or so.Its rough on the battery.
The fuel pump has a fuel shut solenoid, look for a single black wire. It makes an audible click when the ignition is switched on. You can also use a jumper lead from the battery if needed.

it rolls over nice now, but seems to kick out power at about 3 seconds on the key.

Starter relay? Try some power direct from the battery.

A lot of the HZJ7* mine vehicles in Australia had big battery switches to completely cut the power before blasting was to occur. These switches often have a lot of resistance in them due to being on the bullbar and having long pieces battery cable. Anything like that on yours?

Where abouts is the fuel shutoff? Is it near the pump. The only click I get when engaging the ignition is the glow plug relay.
I have a dead man switch on the neg side of the system (assuming it's for security) it seems to be fine.

Best to ensure your glow plugs work properly, with a proper timer or push button a good glow ensures an easy start.
Fuel shut off is one wire to top of pump common to Denso pumps world wide

Mobile Parts trucks have had lots of redundat wiring and of course we in the mines add crap as we go!
Most likely you have a wire somewhere going to ground and therefore disable all wiring systems but keep start and stop for now.
Either pull fuses and or pull light bulbs.....
Oh
make sure the glow system is clean look for dangly wires on top of the head be sure to trace from power source at fire wall to the last connection of the busbar.

Hard to see how the engine would stop/start without one. It usually has a rubber sleeve over it. The green wire is the power to the stop solenoid and goes into the wiring/plug for the tacho. You can safely jump it from the battery
