Cruel, funny as hell, yet still cruel

So all kidding aside, what's the update on this truck? Are they any closer to completion?

The tuner has chosen and purchased a new ECU - AEM infinity 6
He's currently working on wiring it up
His plan is to redo the following which he says "isn't how he'd do it". His way of saying that the last guy was an idiot:
Intercooler plumbing
w2a cooler box mounting
Oil return line from the turbo
water pump for w2a wiring

He indicated that the March 11 meet and greet was probably not gonna happen

Thank God I have an FJ40 to play with - or I would have been going nuts...

Might wanna see if you can mount this guy instead of that 4x4 labs in case you ever need that spare and you are by yourself.

Do they make them in a taller size? :)

Logan's Run is coming up fast (September). Just so you have something to shoot for. :D

Wow man. Had to go all the way to page 5 to find this thread. WTF?

Anyway, I went digging for the thread to pass along some positive perspective... Cus if you believe in the possibility that there could be an infinite number of parallel universes then there is a James out there that's been enjoying his 80 for months.

Congrats!

AEM Infinity 6 WILL NOT run the transmission. No matter how hard he tries. Going to a MAPECU which will run the motor, and relying on the factory TCU. Should have a slight negative impact on things like 0-60 time as the stock TCU tries to deal with 2x HP, but with 40" tires a low 0-60 wasn't really my in the cards no matter how well the tranny shifts. If it's a slushfest, we'll look into shift kits or other options. MapECU is $1000 less than the infinity 6 so that's nice :)

MapECU needs to be wired in
New Oil drain for turbo - and some other minor tweaking of the way the setup was built (better mounting for the turbo - other guy had it just hanging there on the manifold..)
rewiring of W2A water pump and lights
new exhaust

Then a tune.

Then I have a bunch of stuff that I'm going to do myself like the bumper/skid plate/stereo/etc.

A 1994 FZJ80 has a hydraulic transmission, the A442, doesn't it? Why are we talking about electronically controlling a hydraulic transmission?

Apparently the previous gen transmission was full manual control, but not the A442.

Johnny is right. What electronic control does he think he needs? The A442F determines gear by throttle position which is measured via a cable, not a sensor. The only other electronic device related to the transmission is a sensor to hold you out of OD until the temp reaches 120 deg and a cruise control sensor.

Edit .... nope, that's the A440. The 442 does control solenoid valves via the ECU. Sorry.

Strange, all the google searches I do say the A442F is electronically controlled. The A440F was the last manual controlled auto.

A442 we have in the USDM is electronic other markets did get the full hydro A442 behind the 1HDT

Yep - one of his possible solutions was to swap to an A440f or get a manual transmission... Both of which were understandably cost prohibitive :)
