Well we are moving to Buena Vista, Co next month and decided it was in our best interest to get rid of our 2wd Tahoe and grab up a 4x4 for my girlfriend. I recommended the FJ as I am a huge Toyota fan! She balked at the idea at first.....didnt care for the body style but she finally caved and has come to really like it. Found this 92 down in Austin, Tx....it had came from Portland, OR. Was VERY clean, low miles of 177k and appeared mostly stock. It has had the EGR deleted, 17" Cruiser black steel wheels added and 265/75-17 General Grabber AT2's. The guy that I bought it from said he had replaced one 02 sensor but there was a check engine light on for the other. The light has now gone off after putting 1000 miles on it. The oil pressure guage is not working.....he said he hooked it up backwards. Fuel guage is hit/miss, front left knuckle felts/axle seal needs attention....which I just ordered w/wheel bearings from Cruiser Outfitters. Only other thing that seems to be an issue is it has a high idle in park.....like 1100. In any gear it will drop down to 7-850ish which seems normal. Any idea on this?

Anyway couple of things we would like to do. Get rid of the emissions crap including CATS, fix the small little issues, tint the windows, fix the front leaking seals and drive the thing.

A little background on me.....I love Toyotas. Built up several Toyota based rock crawling rigs including a Formula Toy crawler. Been in all the guts of the axles and tcases installing Longfield shafts/birfs, driveflanges, welding diffs up (Im cheap), Marlin crawler gears in the tcase, Longfield outputs, etc. I know my way around a Toyota pretty well for the offroad but got one question......this vehicle will haul my kids around. Do you just put the shims back where they came from? That is what Ive always done in the past. Thanks guys! Learned alot on here poking around.

;)Are you running your ac when your checking your idle? That's still high mind you, but make sure it's off. Mine sits around 650 when I run the ac it bounces between 650 and 850 when the clutch on the ac activates. Good luck. With the EGR "delete" I would start by checking your linkage for something simple and move to your key sensors, like the throttle position sensor. Defer to what some of the go to guys around here say though. Also get the FSM. Search it. Great price on here!;)

Ive checked it both ways. Over 1000 rpm is high regardless like you said. I havent had alot of time to mess with it. We got home from Austin and had a ton of things to do before I left for work (I work out of town 7 on, 7 off). Just was trying to get an idea of what it could possibly be....the TPS came immediately to mind but have never checked one of those. I do have a voltmeter but Im an honest guy....electrical is my weak point. As for the shim question.....I was referring to the shims on the knuckles. Ill get one of the FSM's headed my way as soon as we get this move under our belt.....Thanks!!
