Hey guys,

We purchased a new to us 2009 Land Cruiser a couple weeks back... Long story short, owned a 2004 for a couple years and, in a knee jerk reaction, traded it in on a Sienna when we found out we were having daughter #2. Fast forward a year, and couldn't live without a Cruiser. The Cruiser is Pacific Blue - which I know is not the collective members' favorite. My wife is still warming up to it, as she misses her automatic doors on the Sienna.

One thing that isn't helping "my cause" is that we are having some issues with the DVD/RES. I did some searching on Mud and found similar questions, but no answers. The cruiser did not come with the RES remote so we are having trouble using it (kids) and the radio (mom and dad) at the same time. The dealer gave us some generic bluetooth headphones that work with the DVD. But for some reason, the kids can't watch the DVD with sound through the headphones at the same time we listen to the radio. If we turn on the radio, that's what the kids hear through the head phones.

Any suggestions? The manual is pretty worthless on this topic, according to my wife. I'm also interested in any thoughts on any Cruiser/MUD friendly Toyota dealers where I could buy a new remote/head phones. I'd assume that's the easiest way to fix this. At this point, I have only been able to find used sets online.

Thanks,
Eric

There is only one receiver in the car, so whatever you select will go to both front and back (i.e. no radio + DVD option).

Slight hi-jack here, but on the 200's did Toyota fix that annoying issue with the DVD player where the audio for the DVD came in on a tuned radio station? I can't stand this feature on the 100 LC. I'm always picking up mostly static and have to keep changing the pick up radio station on long road trips.

Thanks Mark. So just to confirm, it's not possible for the kids to listen to a DVD on headphones and for us to listen to the radio? Regardless if whether we have a remote or not.

If so, I'm in some trouble...

Rear seat settings!

When you lower the screen you will see a source selection screen, while on this screen you should see a box labeled (speaker output) in the lower right hand corner. This box allows you to toggle between two choices. One choice with speaker output highlighted syncs the main speakers and headphones and the other non highlighted allows the rear seat occupants to choose their own source to listen through the headsets. The DVD/CD changer has only one tuner so you can't listen to a cd through the main speakers while watching a dvd in the rear through the headphones. You can watch a DVD in the rear w/ sound coming thru the headphones and listen to aux, sat or radio up front thru the main speakers. Also, you can listen to the radio in the rear thru headphones while CD/DVD is being played over the main speakers. The key is selecting the proper speaker output on the rear screen source page. Your welcome!!

One more important thing!

You must have the remote in order to select/change speaker output!!!

Thanks guys, that helps. Now just need to get a remote. Any recommendations... Is there a vendor/dealer on MUD who may be cheaper than my local dealer?

If your dealer is anything like mine, any online vendor would be cheaper. :)

I've used TitusWillToyota (formerly 1stToyotaParts) but the shipping is a little steep. Since then, I've been using Camelback Toyota. Same prices as Titus, no tax for me, and free shipping on most orders of $150 (very easy to get there - just add some wiper blades refills or cabin filters, etc). Plus they are a supporting vendor and active members here on this site.

One quick suggestion would be that if you bought your LC from a Toyota dealer, put a little pressure on them to give you a new remote (or a serious discount on one) before you attempt to buy one yourself.

And congratulations on the purchase!

wow, i didn't know you could do that. can't wait to try on the next long road trip. thanx guys.

Would anyone be willing to look at this remote on eBay and see if it looks to be the same remote as what you have in your 2008+ LC? The third picture should be big enough to do a comparison. It's advertised as an LC remote, but is the same as our Sienna's so just want to confirm before I order.

Thanks guys. This has been a big help. Still owe you pictures and promise that future threads will be more Tech related :p

That remote seems to have all the same functions but is not the same remote. Slightly risky, I would just purchase new from dealer unless I could get on ebay for 20$

Thanks guys. Will probably go the safe route through the dealer... Sounds like it'll be about $500. Don't like the thought but you know what they say, happy wife = happy life...

I don't know if this will help you, but this is the remote that came with my 2013 LC200:

Sorry, I do not know the part number.

The remote you need is in the eBay link I posted above for$155... If you want new, there are plenty of dealers that will discount.
This is correct. So you can buy used for $155, new for $315.28 at one of the vendors I posted above, or new at your dealer for $500. Personally, I'd take the risk with the ebay one first.

$500 a remote? Wow!

What about a programable universal?

Just wanted to reiterate my thanks for everyone's input in this thread. We ended up ordering the used RES remote from eBay (thanks Brian!) for $155. It basically looks like new and works like a charm.

My daughters can now watch their Dora the Explorer or Tinker Bell movies without me having to put the parking brake on so that I can get the movie to play.

Still owe you a few pictures of the Cruiser. It's as stock as can be, but is Pacific Blue so haven't seen many on here like it. Definitely gives off the mall cruiser/eventual soccer mom vibe - which is what it is for now....
