Not sure on this one exactly, but I recall friends using MEK to strip color off of emblems before. I think that is what it was, Methyl Ethyl Ketone.
I feel i kinda lucked out... My rig has black chrome color emblems.

I'm a HUGE fan of the anthracite coloring. Cant wait to see the wheels done that way. I am contemplating getting a second set of wheels to do that with in the future. Probably when it needs tires too, I'll go that route. Looking at wheel options casually now. Might go to a 17" especially if I go up a size or two in tire...
Keep us posted on your build, its great!

YES! Do the anthracite dip on everything. That would really set the rig apart from the other soccer moms.

But seriously, I like that color.

I took the Lexus on the annual McGrew Trail Ride again this year. She did great! I was even gutsy enough to try some hard lines and my wife got some driving time as well. However, we also ran into an issue. I ended up slicing the sidewall on 2 of my Duratracs. I was running the steel Tundra 18” wheels (which I hated) and I was running a tire size I really didn’t want but the tires still had 60 – 70% tread! Since I wasn’t planning on buying tires yet, I figured I would do some Craigslist searching. I came across a guy selling 2 Duratracs in the correct size with around the same tread! I bought the tires and went to have them mounted. Unfortunately, both of them had pin holes in the sidewall. The seller refunded my money but I had to buy two used tires that didn’t match from Schwabs for way too much money. I was not a happy camper but I figured this would give me a chance to go back to the stock 16” wheels.

I had my stock wheels but they were chrome and my spare had a non-chrome wheel. This wasn’t ideal because eventually I will have a rear bumper with a tire carrier and I would like them to match. I looked in to having the chrome removed but it was way more than I wanted to spend. After some searching, I found a guy selling his stock tires and wheels off of his old LX. They only had 20k miles on them when he pulled them off for aftermarket and they had been stored in a temp controlled shop! I figured that the tires would be done due to age but they were still holding proper psi and didn’t have any stress cracks. I ended up bolting them on and running them for a week or so. The tires were perfect!

Last week, I finally got around to getting new tires. I really wanted some 285’s and justified it by the load rating. There was no way I was going to tow my 40 with the stock 11 year old tires! I ended up going with Falken Rocky Mountain’s from America’s Tire. Everything I have read about them was positive and the price was right. I will keep everybody posted on how I like them but so far I couldn’t be happier.

The LX got to be the hunting vehicle for my Dad and I this year. And a really good friend let me borrow his 18' Nash!

The LX pulled the trailer well (air bags and a WD hitch) and we were able to fill our tags.

We even had a bit of time to fish a bit before coming home.

Out of curiousity, what size and load rating were your Duratracs that got sliced? I see a lot of comments on the interwebs about the sidewalls being weak, so I'm wondering if it is mostly D rated tires that people are having issues with or if it's also E rated tires.

They were E Rated (10-ply). I can't remember the size off the top of my head but I think it was 275/65R17... (or something along those lines)

On a related tire note, I am LOVING my Falkens. I was worried about towing as I went to a D load rating (8-ply) but they felt super stable with the camp trailer on. And they were pulling me through mud holes that I couldn't believe for the tread pattern. So far I love them!

Cool thanks for the info - I was hoping they weren't E rated (as that's what I have) but it's good to know!

Wow, it's been a while since I posted about my LX470! Quick update on the tires, I absolutely love them! Definitely a tire that you would want to check out if your use is the same as mine.

I did get a couple of things for the truck as well. I now have SOR Tuff Duck seat covers, which I really like, and I got a Truckfridge.com fridge. This is the same as a Waeco or Ironman4x4 fridge. I haven't had the opportunity to really test it out but so far it is working great! If you are in the market for a fridge, this is one to check out. They are well priced and loaded with features. I got the 40qt size and will be building it into my load deck eventually.

As a side note, last Saturday was my 2 year anniversary of owning this truck!

Quick update: I got a Speski barrier for Christmas and it is awesome! If you are on the fence, just get it. I also developed the dreaded 3rd brake light leak to go along with my sunroof leak... The sunroof was leaking between the glass and the rubber seal, so it was dripping into the garnish. I found 2 years ago that I could remove the garnish and it would drip into the tray (woohoo!). This was the extent of my fixing it... Now that I had a leak in the cargo area, I figured it was time to fix both with Right Stuff. Rain is supposed to be back for the weekend, so I will keep everyone posted on how it works.

Got to do a couple fun things in the Lexus this month. Our monthly club meeting was at a fellow club members house and he has the "RTI stump" in his backyard that I drove up. Thanks goodness for ATRAC or I would have never made it. The DS rear tire is over a foot off the ground:

Our club also volunteered to help out at the annual SOLV beach clean-up. Our job was to haul the full garbage bags from the beach to the dumpsters, so we basically just drove around on the sand. Here are the three shots that my Lexus was in:

In preparation of getting a front bumper from benc, I had to figure out my turn signal situation. I don't like the look of those "eagle eye" bullet LEDs people are sticking to their bumpers. To me, it just looks cheap. So I acquired a set of Land Cruiser corner lights. The turn signals and sockets plug right in and there is enough wire to pull them up without modification. I taped off the parking light plug and stashed it in the fender. Now my turn signals are where they should have been all along! The only downside is I no longer have front parking lights. To me, this isn't a big deal because of the daytime running lamps. Overall, I'm happy with how everything turned out.

As a side note, the wiring harness has a connector that plugs into the socket. That plug looks like it would plug into either socket. LX owners should be able to lengthen the parking light plug and connect it to the turn signal socket and run the turn signal wires up the the LX corner lights. This would be an easy way to get the turn signals where they should be with just some time and some wire.

After a 1147 mile road trip, I have my bumper! Now I need to pull it back off and get some paint on it. Also, Sunday was my birthday and marked 3 years of ownership for my LX! It's hard to believe that I've been driving it for 3 years already...

Anyway, here she is in all of her raw glory:

I was able to pick up my Dissent Off-Road bumper from my buddy, Nickko, at Zollwerks in Hillsboro. He sandblasted and powder coated the bumper in Cardnal 20% gloss powder. I got it home and TonsOFun helped me wire in the LEDs and get it installed. I am so happy with how it turned out!

The LED's are wired to my factory fog light wiring. I just used a multi-meter to figure out which wire was positive and which was negative, cut the OEM connector off and wired in a Delphi connector for the LEDs. I am also planning on running an LED bar between the stinger, but that may be a while... I really need to focus on my 40!
