I'm coming from an FJ62, and recently acquired a 1991 FJ80, 100% bone stock and original w/107K mi. The wheels are the factory 15x7 wrapped in Goodyear 235/75/15. I'd like to keep the original wheels but swap the tiny tires with a set of KO2s. I'm torn between 31x10.5x15 and 32x11.5x15. Aesthetically I prefer the 32's but don't want to run into any problems with rubbing, rim fitment, or re-gearing the drivetrain. The 32's officially call for a 8"-10" rim width, so will that be a problem on a 7"? I don't plan to lift more than 2" so will rubbing be an issue? I'm open to a 1.25" spacer if needed. This truck will see 90% street use, and the 3FE is dog slow as it is, so will I have problems climbing a steep grade on 32" without re-gearing? Would love to see some pics of both sizes if you have them!

Great looking rig! I also have always like those stock 15" all wheels.

I ran 33x10.5 ko2s on my 91 with the factory wheels pretty much the entire time I owned it. Great for the tall and skinny look, imo. No rubbing even at full lock and stuff.

Personally would get the nearest size in a KO2 only to the size your using.

Reason being this tyre would be heavier and have a larger footprint on your drivetrain but more importantly, you don't want to give more power away already on an engine that is underpowered and then regret the driving experience soon after.

Thanks for all the input. BFG has a $150 mail in rebate but only for purchases 2/14/2020 - 2/15/2020. So the trigger will be pulled today. Most likely 31” for the weight and performance. 45lb is not too bad for an LT tire.

I have 305/70r16 (33") on my stock 93.

I have no lift, and with the sagged 27 year old springs, the is zero rubbing.

33" look like they are what Toyota intended for tyre size. Gearing is fine too.

I can second this. when I got my fzj80 I immediately did a baseline and noticed a considerable power gain while driving. I think the size it comes with is 265 70 16. Then a few days later I put on 285 75 16s - I lost all of the torque power and then some on the hills and changed the driving experience. I'm not saying I regret, but knowing now what I know, with how I use the truck. 75% road as many of us do, I would have considered the 33 decision a lot more; perhaps opting for something a bit more narrow or smaller; a 32 could have done the job and given me some peppier road manners. just my .02.

another thing, these tries crack, even if used lightly so talk about the shop about their warranty policy and get their commitment upfront if thisi is a concern to you. I do like these tires.

I would sell you my wheel/tire combo off my 80. I am running the stock 16's with 315/75-16 even when I was at a stock height I had no issues rubbing. On these rigs, we have a big wheel well and there is plenty of room for large tires.
