Hey everyone - just drove my LX470 from GA to Encinitas! It was amazing - left with 293,000 miles on her and added 4k more - up to Pikes Peak, down through 113 degrees in the desert, etc. All with my family and dog in tow! Now that we are living about 10 blocks or so from the beach what do I need to know about maintenance, etc.? I know there is salt air but not a ton more. I only owned the car in GA so other than keeping it clean it was pretty straight forward.

Welcome to Encinitas! I live here too. What color is your 100? I’ll look for you.
Yes. You will see surface rust on leading edge of front axle, springs, frame, and so on from salt in air.
Number one, park in garage of your new house have one.
Two, fix any body rust immediately.
Three, rinse it off at carb wash frequently.
Four, honestly if you have another car to take to beach, do it.
Five use an undercoat like wool wax and your good

Thanks! I have a Sand Dollar Pearl LX470 with a black Prinsu rack and Slee sliders - if you see me, say hi!

I have a garage but I have a 1976 Bronco in there - which is my only other car. I think I can fit both but maybe not so easily, and the Bronco already has rust!

I will be sure to wash it frequently.

What is wool wax and who applies it? Is it a spray on kind of thing? Do you know of anyone doing LineX or similar on the undercoat?

So awesome, we had a sand dollar pearl lx 470 for 10 years. Not a problem at all. Just gas, tires, and oil changes!
Wool wax is an undercoating protection fluid. Like wax.
Clean the frame with soap and water, dry, then spray on. There are lots of others like it. Some just use grease or old oil.
I wouldn’t recommend line x or anything like that as they tend to peel up and rust underneath.
See ya around!

Hey - quick question - where do you go for your oil changes? Also, a shop called SD Truck Shop was recommended - know them? I wrote to them and they will do a Corrosion X application all over for $250 - not sure if that makes sense or not?

Morning. Yes I’ve known John at SDTrux for ever. He has serviced all our cruisers. And yes corrosion X is perfect! He can also do the oil change.
For what it’s worth, the job is so easy any shop around could do it. I’ve used Encinitas Foreign and Domestic and recently I’ve used Brads Auto.
If
You go to SDTrux, tell John I sent you! 😄

John at SD Trux has retired. His long time manager has the business now. Can't recall his name. Still great service. He'll take 100's, but unless an existing customer would prefer not to take on anymore 80's.

SD Trux is a good place for newer rigs. SD Trux was a good place for 80's but John reluctantly worked on mine the last time a few years ago, it seemed they did not want to work on older and or modified trucks having to deal with owner upgrades etc. They even worked on my FJ40 25 years ago, however I think it was a different owner. I started going to the Truck Shop a few blocks from them and they were more willing to work on older modified toyota rigs. I think they also do fab work, and I always see older 80's, 70's, and trucks in the lot.
