Just took the plunge on tires and I'm afraid I've made a mistake.
Went with Yokohama Geolandar's, size 265/70/r16

Went with a tiny bit smaller tire, but it looks a good bit narrower than I expected. Is this my imagination?
Also, any chance the truck will grip the road worse? Now I'm nervous I should have gone with the 275, or even a 285. Any input would be awesome.
Thanks!

The GeoLandar is an excellent tire, but why mess with the sizing?

I find the Geolanders measure small and their stated sizing on the website is not accurate. But....thats pretty much standard with all tire sizes these days, very few measure true to spec.

Have you checked your tire pressures?

If I was to go with a different size than stock, I would only go up. This is both in terms of width and overall diameter. Never ever would I go down a size, but that's just my personal opinion. I would only have gone with the 265/70/16 tire for a dedicated winter tire.

Do you think this could be hazardous in wet conditions?
I should have thought about this before clearly.
Thanks

You guys have me nervous. Lol

well fortunately its not an 80 so your head gaskets are safe.

but seriously youll be fine, you only lost 10mm of tread width and youll never notice that on the road. but it will throw off the speedo a bit, youll be reading faster than your actually going so you can live with that or get a speedo correction box from slee. and if you really dont like the tires you can always get a different size and try to sell the tires you just bought as a used set and get some money back

I run 265/70/16, I bought these as an emergency due to bad old tires. I was in Mid Wales UK at the time where everyone is a farmer and wide tires are not used for offroad use. I asked for 285/75/16 BFG's and when I picked it up they had fitted 265/70/16 discoverer AT3's. There response was 285 was to wide for offroad as that is for tarmac and the AT3 was a better tire. Not agreeing with what he said and as they all drive land rover defenders on skinny tires I probably wouldn't change his mind. I think he forgot that It was my truck. Anyway, I haven't been able to notice much difference, I don't need that much ground clearance offroad as I only drive on tracks, mostly muddy field tracks and they have been fine. But I will be going to 285's next. The tire guy thought he had done me a favour by saving me £200, but in all honesty it will probably mean that I will change these tires early to fit 285 k02's.

A skinnier tire will actually provide better traction because more weight will be on the contact patch, a wider tire floats more which reduces the amount of weight on the contact patch.

With that being said, when you crash and die can I have your 16" rims for snow tires?

;)

You are a real trend setter. I admire your courage to buck the trend of bigger, better looking, better performing tires and go with smaller tires. Which Geolandars did you get? I hope you did not get the AT-S, because those use up blinker fluid like crazy.

I recently replaced my worn 275s with 265s, but I believe they are 75’s. I actually like the slightly skinnier and taller look, though I was mostly motivated to find a size with greater selection and price than the stock 275/70 sizing. Also, my selection measured the closest to the stock sizing (especially in comparison to the usual 285s used by most hereon).
I replaced Mich LTX MS with Destination ATs. The new AT’s also sit up on the tread a bit better; the Mich always looked a bit under inflated. I assume that difference is due to type (AT vs highway), rather than sizing.
To each his own. Don’t fret about your selection.

I'm curious to see a picture or two of your 265's on the truck.

my PO had 265/65/18 michelin low rolling resistance tires on the rear, mismatched 275's on the front. (flipping dealers) when I bought it. I didn't know then they were undersized from stock.
