Hows it going guys, looking to get a new set of tires.

I'm between the toyo open country H/T in 275/70/16 and the toyo open country A/T II in 285/75/16.

Question is which would be a better option considering highway driving and snow driving as well as minimal off road driving? I am not an expert on this subject so any input would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

I have the AT II and have about 30k miles. Very stable at 75 in heavy rain and quiet. I don't think there is any highway compromise and the look is great.

if this is a generic tire question, it would be better in the tires section for a bigger audience.

If you have a specific 100 question, you might want to state it to get better help here.

You really have two questions here, one is tread the other is size. The 285/75 is in the 33" class, the 275/70 is a 31". You'll notice the difference in the 2000. It will be slower off the line and downshift more on the hills.

If you're primarily on the highway but looking for a good snow tire that also can serve off road duty I'd probably steer you toward the BFG AT K/O. In the 275/70R16 size it is a rated snow tire. While not as good as maybe a Blizzak in severe snow, it is a good winter performer and will prevent you from needing to chain up in most conditions.

Just out of curiosity, any consideration to the BFG A/T or M/T?
Great tires on and off the highway, generally quieter than most with similar tread design and long wear mileage.

That's all I run on both my wife's LC and my own LC. She has the A/T's and I have the M/T's

I recently bought the yokohama geolander at in 265/75/16 and i could not be happier. It looks great and is actually a 32" tire which is the perfect upgrade from stock also it's D rated. 285 size really takes a hit on performance.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses.

I went with the open country AT2's in 285 and love them so far. gives the truck just enough of a rugged look.

Took me a couple hours but I got the running boards off as well and have OEM front mud guards coming in the mail.

Healthy changes for my LC this week and heading in the right direction towards a built cruiser.

Mike, I have the Toyo A/T's in the same size you mentioned.

Very quiet on the road. So far, tread looks great after ~25K.

They've been extremely stable in 6 runs up and over a snowy, snotty Donner Pass between BOI and SFO...not to mention snowy / icy stuff in the backwoods of Idaho.

You will fell a slight loss in acceleration with the 33's, but no big deal.. My mpg increased about 1/2 a mpg on freeway runs.

I'd say...get 'em.

Happy Thanksgiving

Steve
