anyone?

It took me a while to get my first winch, but after having one, I consider it a piece of safety equipment, a very important piece.

After my brother and his fiance rolled a few years ago, there was no question in my mind that the winch was going to work and it was going to work fast to get the rig rolled back over quickly. Initially nobody popped up out the rig and we thought they might be pinned inside. They had also rolled into a large puddle.

Everyone came out fine except the rig, but get the best winch you can afford, preferrably by the company the sets the standard for winches and that would be Warn.

warn warn warn.....

I thought about getting something different just b/c of cost, but i waited until i found a warn. I ended up getting a Warn M12000 that was pulled on once for $525........SCORE.....it looked like it just came out of the box..

Deals are out there, just be patient.

Be patient.

I picked this up here on MUD for $500.00.

I now have two 8274-50's, one 8274, one M6000 (original style 8274) and two Bellviews. I run the newer style M6000 from the late 80's on my FJ60 with no problems.

I know that the Warn would be the best way to go as far as proven performance, but I was wondering if anyone had run one yet. The price is very nice...I'm planning on spending most of the cash on gears and lockers, so...

thanks!

I called winchdepot and talked to a rep for a little bit. It seems they are on backorder until the end of the month (they except orders to be at the peoples front porch by the end of the month). The rep also said that these are very popular and the only complaints about the winch is that sometimes the electronics cover gets broken in shipping (which they obviously replace). They have 400 order and around 200 people on the wait list. Just a heads up!

Will a stock 40 electrical system handle a winch?
Please PM me on this.

thanks, jim

Possibly, but most people either run a high output alternator or a 2nd optima batt.

You winch from the energy contained in your battery, so make sure you have a good one. The stock electrical system is fine. It's job is to supply only a bit of the power, but it's there mainly to recharge the battery afterwards. Having 2 batteries is good, but my 40 only has one, and it's run the 8274 just fine.

I like Warn and feel they actually care about their customers. All of the Chinese winches are about the same. They are cheap, they work, and when they break, you toss them in the can. Warn winches are the standard for good reason.

Warn customer service really is outstanding, and their winches are first rate. You really should run a Warn, even if it's an M8000.

I don't want to cause mass panic on Mud, but winchdepot's price just went up to $284.95.

Rebadged MileMarker? A MileMarker is a rebadged TMax... :)
The main housing and gears definately look like TMax stuff. Sometimes the MM and other brands they make have bushings instead of bearings etc. I've seen MM's without gaskets and no bearings- but I think they all have bearings now.
The Smittybuilt one isn't the 'same' as the MM and Tmax, but appears to have the same main housing and guts. I've been using TMax for 3 years now and they never skip a beat. Lots of late model Warns have been dropping like flies, so it seems things are changing.
