I recently made a deal for a new (to me) FJ40. Traded my FJ60 (ex-Tom Humphries great truck), some parts from the HJ60 that Jeff Dozier's diesel engine came from, and some cash. Got me a real nice 78 (same year as my pig) FJ40, olive in color. Truck had originally been in Antarctica for seven years, and the guy I got it from had it for nine years. He had done a lot of work to the truck- tons of new OEM parts, rebuilt engine, transmission and transfer case, knuckles done, etc. It runs great and is a sharp truck.

The hardtop hadn't been on the truck for almost the entire nine years the PO owned the truck. What with the weather these days the bikini top wasn't much protection and I wanted to reassemble and install the hardtop. Luckily fellow club member Matt Reed picked today to visit and was able to help me get the hardtop sides and hardtop itself installed. Couldn't have done it myself to tell the truth..........got all the screw holes tapped out and everything went back on as planned. I'll need to install the doors yet but at least the hardtop is on and secured. Mounting the doors shouln't present a problem. With any luck I might get that done tomorrow and have the truck available to drive legally (and comfortably!!!).

Anyway, another cruiser in the club..................Gary S

Congrats on the "40" ...hope to see it someday on a trail ride

Gee, what a surprise, Gary gets another deal on a great truck.

I wish I could step in whatever Gary stepped in. :grinpimp:

Congrats, lets see some pictures so we can all get jealous. :)

Gary, do you still have that beautiful mustard 40 that I saw, fresh from the painter's when I picked up my top from you? I know you weren't going to wheel that one.

40

No, that mustard 40 is in California. I had bought that as a basket case from matt reed many years ago- I took it apart a little fuether than Matt had done, had the body fixed and painted, then reassembled the entire rig. All the body parts were off except for the tub itself. It turned out to be a veryattractive good running solid as a rock land cruiser. Yes, way too nice to wheel.

This new one is not quite as perfect paint wise as the mustard truck but better in a lot of ways. It's got a completely rebuilt engine tranny and transfer, original tub that has been rhino lined that was tinited to match the paint. It's about ready to go now what with the top and doors mounted and I might just take it out to go tothe football game tonight. Yeah, Dan it's a good one and also too nice to wheel. Hell, though, that's what i have the 55 for!!!!!

I don't have any photos but will get some. Have to work tomorrow but maybe over thw weekend I'll be able to take a few shots. Gary
