New radio install - Alpine ILX-007 (Apple CarPlay)

I just installed the ilx-107. Its a beautiful headunit but is seriously lacking in the feature department. 2v preamp voltage, no usb capability, no bluetooth streaming, etc. It is strictly a wireless carplay and radio unit. I will hopefully be returning it this afternoon for a ilx-207. Its not worth sacrificing all these "standard" features just to have wireless carplay. The ilx-207 has car play and android auto plus all the standard features that should be on the 007/107. Pioneer, Kenwood, and Alpine have always been the top tier of headunits. I've owned and played with all these brands. I will always consider Alpine over the others. I disagree with the comment above, Alpine has always been ahead of the curve in features and integration (107 is the first wireless carplay unit). Their menu system seems more simplified and their units have always felt like they were constructed to a higher quality. Alpine has slowed production many times because things were not up to their standards while Pioneer and Kenwood just pump out model numbers to make a quick buck. They are all great units and even though Alpine let me down a bit with the 107 they still provided the 207 with more features than you would ever need.
FYI: Stereo shops will almost always recommend Pioneer and Kenwood over Alpine for 2 reasons. Alpine doesn't release models often, they need to liquidate the other brands quicker to make room for the newer models. The shops usually make a higher profit margin on those brands.

I agree with you re Alpine. In fact I probably owned closed to 15 Alpine head units over my life time. Prior to buying a unit this year I won't even look at other brands. In the nineties I competed at a national level for sound quality and pretty knowledgeable with car stereo. In fact all my cars has at least an aftermarket speakers, amplifiers, subwoofers. After looking at all the options and reports comparing Alpine, Pioneer and Kenwood. I went with Pioneer. And again Alpine was behind from the options prespective. IMHO apple and android car play are over rated so I wouldn't judge my purchase based on that.

Check out my build...
