I should have you do all my detail work..................................
Very nice. :D

Completely tore down and rebuilt the SD-40 Big window carb today. Took about 2 hours including cleaning the carb housing.

Used the kit from Keyster mentioned in this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/showthread.php?t=157159

Worked well and had what I needed (mostly the gaskets). Linkage and site window bracket was plated earlier in my first pile to go to the cad plater.

Just some more busywork until I figure out where I am going to get early floorpans.

If anyone has any early metal fuel lines that go from the carb to pump, etc with the clips, I need them.

Bill, now that you're done.............the base should be painted the same green as the electrical. ;)

Looks great! I like the way the cad turned out. :D

Jim, you're killin' me...................

Thanks guys. I'll keep posting pics as I have things completed.

The cad plating on that looks great. Did you plop it on the intake to see how it runs? What's the date on that carb?

Have not placed it on the intake yet as I am waaaaaay off from that point. I am still in the disassembly mode. I try to R&R each piece as I take it off so that everything is set to go back on when I get to that point. The carb was removed a while ago and I decided to rebuild it after I got some of the plating back.

How can I tell the date of the carb? I know it is an SD-40 and of the correct vintage of my 40, but are there other markings that I can use?

Only other markings on it are near the base that have:

Tq (symbol) 5B 10

Thanks
Bill

None of the markings on my carb are anywhere near the top. The markings listed above are at the base of the carb right above where it meets the cast iron base.

Iron base has an "F" on it.

Rest of the markings are standard SD-40 AISAN

When I pulled it, it was on an FJ25 intake, which I learned were also used on early 40s. Seemed to be the original carb as it probably was never removed judging from how it looked on the intake.......but then again, I could be wrong.

Anyone know the difference between the blue vs gray window emblems?

Hey Bill, where you at with your work? Been keeping an eye on your thread, as I will be doing this same work to our '64 40...and really appreciate you taking the time to post up these great pictures!

Great work! Give us an update when you get the chance.

I am currently at a pause in the restoration for a year long vacation in the desert via Uncle Sam. Back to Iraq for the third time.:censor:

Plan is to collect some parts while I am gone (would love to get a set of front floorpans - mine are shot - no one seems to reproduce the real early ones:bang:).

would love more info on how you restored it, what epoxy you used, what paint etc :)

My steering wheel has some cracks etc.
And i would love to restore it :)

Thanks

Destin

ps, sorry about your desert vacation :(

Steering wheel. i used epoxy to fill the cracks and then sanded down with 120, then 320, then 600, then 1000 and painted with a plastic specific paint.
