My wife hated the Durango. It has been totally problem free, she just doesn't feel safe at all driving it, braking, bouncy etc...

your sales pitch on the Durango may need some work.... :flipoff2:

nice find on the 80 tho!

I check and I didnt see a switch to the lleft of the steering wheel...guess I don't have lockers then... ..it does have the other shifter in the center to go from low to high....

That's the transfer case lever.

In most 4wd vehicles, there would be three positions for the lever: 2wd, 4wd high, 4wd low.

Since 80 series and newer Land Cruisers are full time 4wd, the lever only functions to shift from 4wd high to 4wd low, as well as locking the center differential in 4wd low.

Here is what the diff lock switch looks like:

It would be located to the left of the steering column on the vertical portion of the dash. If you do not have this feature, there will be a black platistic 'blank' in it's place.

Diff locks serve to lock up the axle differentials so that a loss of traction in one wheel will not send all the power to that wheel. Similar concept to a 'limited slip' differential, if you are familiar with those, only it doesn't limit the slip, it completely eliminates it.

Ryan,

Looks like your diff. lock switch has not seen any action in awhile (if you took the pic).

Time to go wheelin'? ;) :D

trinitony,

not having lockers isnt the end of the world. When I bought my 94 a few years back I didnt know what to look as far as locked or non locked. I have done some crazy offroading w/o lockers, locking the ctr diff does plenty other stock SUVs cant do. If you plan to do alot of climbing over rocks get ARB lockers.
However, having known, I would buy lockers.

Heh, heh, heh...
I was gonna say the same thing, but I think that's a generic photo -- from Slee's site possibly?

True to your word, I'll give you credit for that. But if you're thinking of a career in photography.... :(

The previous owner is a body man at a Toyot dealership. He's been working there for 16+ years......he even put the limitted sticker on it..which it's not...

Kewl...they shall be off in the morning.

Just failed MD state inspection....need new front rotors and alingment....guess I'll do a search , sure someone addressed this before.

Don't go to Minieke because they put a cheap muffler on my truck and a big hole developed within 2 years. Even if you get a lifetime warranty on the muffler, it's not worth it for paying 130 bucks on the new tail pipe and labor. Good luck!

If those stickers are mounted on the inside, you might be careful that you don't screw up the surface applied rear defrost lines.

You may want to go ahead and bite the bullet and get an FSM if you going to be doing your own maitenance (which must of us recommend). Little bit more to getting the front rotors off than your typical 2wd jobbers. Rear rotors.. no problamo.

 and welcome.

My mechanic quoted me $250 for labor, which he said includes repacking etc...oem rotors he said will be $198 for the pair......so it will be done for $450 total....is this reasonable?
