I recently bought my neighbor's 1999 Land Cruiser for next to nothing in the hopes that I can save it without going upside down on its market value. It has 190k miles (perfect cosmetically) but has a blown head gasket (I hope it is limited to that). I paid $1000 as is. The exhaust is white and the engine shutters until it warms up and then smooths out a little. The exhaust smells like coolant. So I need a local Los Angeles mechanic to take a look at the engine and see if I can afford to fix it or whether I will just flip or part it out. Appreciate any suggestions. Andrew

Andrew check the thread about putting early 100 diffs into a 2000. Rohitash just rolled his 100 and is going to be parting it out. I believe he's more in Nor Cal. But he has a good engine that will be for sale shortly. That is what I'd do. If it blew a headgasket (not common at all) who knows what other things are wrong inside. That can add up really quick.
