Diff spins so it should be okay I think. I'm guessing just a poorly installed birf. So buy new birf, seals, bearings and I should be back on the road.

now you know why your wheel wasn't spinning the other day when it was up in the air...

Okay got the stuff to replace but I am still having trouble getting the star off the inner axle. I have pounded on the star and tried the pipe trick I think but still can't get them to separate. In looking at the end of the axle it looks like it is flared out around the c-clip. Is that normal? BTW I know this weekend is the 4th but anyone want to help with an axle install?

Okay on second thought scratch this weekend I'm not going to want to work on it then. Anyone want to help with an axle install on the 10th?

Are you completely pulling apart? (knuckles too?) or just pulling the axle shafts and hubs?

I was thinking just axle shaft and hub but I was going to ask for opinions. Since the race did shatter and I had to drive it a little that way would it be better to take it all the way down just to make sure? Of course this is all contingent on getting the star off the axle shaft.

How are you trying to get the star race off? it usually requires a pipe to insert the axle shaft through and then a drop or two onto the concrete... i just opt to beat the piss out of it with a hammer... and it takes a large blow to get it off.

But one side and not pulling the knuckle should be nothing... you've got it out right? so it's just putting it back in?
I'd come up, but someone on here closer should be willing to assist you... I'd say someone who has never seen the inside of one should come over just to witness it.

I've got a pipe and have beat it on the garage floor and it's still attached. Visually it looks like the end of the shaft is flaring at the c-clip.

probably from the heat... hmmm. remind me again: short or long side?

Short side and the heat is what I was thinking also. It has the discolored look to it.

I'm going to try and get the pieces seperated again tonght and if I can't I will take you up on the offer.

Okay so no luck separating the axle from the star. The end of the axle is just flaring out above the c-clip. Matt I'll take you up on the offer for the short side.

got an angle grinder? I mean, i know lightly grinding the flare off is not recommended... but then again, neither is going up rock faces in expensive vehicles...

I don't have one at the house but can get one from work. I'll try that and then go from there.

Okay so my plan is to fix my junk Saturday anybody want to come help? BBQ and beverages involved. If you want to come shot me a PM and I'll send you the address.

I'd LOVE to, but the park is open down here this Saturday, I'm heading to Indianapolis on Monday for a work week... BUSY weekend.

Update, got everything broke down with a little help from Matt (thanks again). Decided to go ahead and pull the knuckle off and make sure I didn't have any metal floating around and I'm glad I did. Missing two knuckle studs and of the other two remaining one of them backed out by hand. So I think 'm going to PM the driver's side now also since I'm already there so to speak.
