I have thought about doing that, not with a newer axle housing but with one out of a 91-92. I figured that might be easier. Hopefully I'll have a better idea as to what is going on tonight.

with regard to an axle swap. Every axle I've seen that's been sitting will need a minimum of brake rotors. Gotta pull the hub for that, so now you need a gasket kit... IMHO, it's not worth it unless something is broken.
plus, once he has an elocker in the front he's gonna want an aussie in the back. Once he's locked front and rear he's going to need some sliders, a lift, and some 35's. Then he's gonna want some high clearance bumpers and probably move up to 37's, cause the 35's don't look big enough any more. then he's gonna break both his birf's and need some longfields. Then he's gonna need a part time kit, and he might as well do the manual swap with the splitcase and the toybox, chop the top, get some 38's cause now he has the gearing and then a full cage and a 2fe and ...
....be looking for a clean '07 Tundra to tow it to the long distance parks and surf the web all day looking at craigslist because it's more fun than his work.
prior to last night, i was looking for a diesel F250 in the 7.3 era.... well, i parked beside a tricked out Tundra and DAMN it's badass. i knew they would tow 10K lbs but i didn't realize is how cheap they can be... Them being only 3 years old i may find one on a big car lot that may take my tC in on trade... the stars would have to align though...
