Hey all-
After lurking here and learning what I could I finally fulfilled my 15 year dream of owing a cruiser.

I just dipped my foot in the pool and bought a 1986 BJ74 13BT, right hand drive.
195000Kms (or so the ODO says...seems right but who knows)
generally nice shape, still has the Japanese stickers all over, original tool kit and jack.

The running lights don't seem to work and there is some kind of aftermarket switch on the dash that I have yet to figure out, but otherwise its all in working order.
Doesn't leak a drop of fluid, no rust to speak of. I'm pretty stoked.

Looking forward to learning more as I go.
On to the running lights.
:)

These things never came with running lights so they would've been installed by importer to pass inspection. My wifes car is the same story. I really wouldn't bother with them unless shotty wiring is killing your battery.

maybe "running lights" is the wrong term. They're the oversized headlights mounted in front of the grill on the front bumper. Fog lights maybe?

no, there doesn't appear to be a battery drain I just think it'd be nice to have everything working correctly. I'll try to get pics up soon

I also added pics to the registry.

They are driving lights

Very nice!

Whereabouts in VT? We usually go up there a few times a year. Lots of fun.

New Hampshire actually, but right on the border. Hanover near Norwich vt

Excellent, for you and the rig show up on mud. I might have grabbed it... if it was LHD. Welcome.
Thanks very much. Yeah its a nice rig, still has the some of the factory plastic on the door interiors!

I'm trying to figure out how to replace the 24-volt driving lights which are rusted out...can I use ANY light kit as long as I have a bulb for 24-volt set ups?

Nice rig. There is a thread "what's this switch for"same mystery there as you have. I had extra wires to the 12v side for stereo. Trace the wire it's obvious if it's factory Good luck

Hey calsbeek -

Nice rig! I drove by your rig at Dan and Whits the other day (nearly kinked my neck I did such a double take). I live in Norwich and have had an '87 similar to yours in Norwich for ~5 years now....Its my DD and tree work truck. Welcome!
