I've posted a couple times over the past week, but haven't done a formal intro for myself until now. It's been 14 years since I owned a 4wd truck or SUV. I was heavy into autocross and drag racing, and stayed deep into the mitsubishi, bmw, and mercedes scenes. I've moved on past that, and have found myself longing for a land cruiser. When I was into offroad trucks, I remember wanting one so bad I could taste it.
This past Monday, I bought a 98 Land Cruiser with 167k. It has only had one owner, and is in good shape mechanically. The body has the usual scratches and door dings. The interior is in pretty good shape with the exception of the driver's seat, which looks pretty worn. I had a P0155 code active, so I threw a couple upstream o2 sensors at it, and the code hasn't returned. I also had to replace the center muffler, which sucked while lying on my back in the driveway.
When sitting and staring at the LC, I noticed the front end was way lower than the rear, and all the tires were dryrotted. I couldn't let either of those issues go, so I took a 3 hour trip to pick up a brand new set of 2015 Tundra wheels and tires. After installing them, I measured the front to back ride height, and the front was 2" lower than the back. This might be ok for some, but it annoyed the crap out of me. I wrenched up the torsion bars, checked droop, and was much happier with the end result. I just dropped the truck off for an inspection so I can get my permanent tags. Next on the list is a stereo overhaul, then maybe some suspension work. I have a feeling this will turn into another addiction.
Below is a couple cell phone pics I took when I was installing wheels today. I hated the old wheels so much that I forgot to take a before pic.
