Sounds like good enough reason to get a diesel
Well... if you guys can tell me up to what years you can import and FJ70 or 75... I'd be more than happy to send some over.
If the vehicle is 1983 or older it can be imported without issue. Once we hit 2009 that year will bump up to 1984. You see anything that old over there in decent shape? My guess is they like new vehicles over there and anything that old will be a commercial use vehicle and be beaten on. Hope I am wrong.
Do they have junkyards / auto recyclers over there or do they just sell everything to poorer neighboring countries to dispose of?

Unfortunately, it's VERY tough finding anything pre-1990. Ya I think they do sell it all.
But they DO have many junkyards filled with cars (accident rates here are ridiculous). Toyotas here are king, and so the junk yards are piled with them.
I'll go check out the auction sometime soon again to see if I can find someone who sells older vehicles (although I doubt it, I'm a big classic car fan and there isn't much to be found around here).
You gotta understand the tempreture here in Jeddah is around 100-140 degrees fahrenhiet with 100% humidity 90% of the year. People here HATE any car that's unreliable or with bad A/C.
Only reason I like Jeddah is because of the awesome freediving at the Red Sea (and the tempreture makes it non-seasonal diving). Fish are abundant, the coral is breathtaking, and the spearfishing is intense with lots of special species (and Barracuda... damn im making myself hungry
Anyway, this may mean ill start looking into the part export business. I'm sure you all could benifit from a ton of 1fz's and stuff like that.

that's one nice cruiser. for 3000$??? i'd buy the thing right away. as far as running cold, they all do that when just being started. pull the choke half way for 10 seconds and you're set...

Dude, you live in lebnan man... you have amazing weather over there... i'd LOVE to have any drop top on those mountains
But you have to factor in the searing heat here. I once had a 89 mustang that I swapped a 351 into, and the heat would just literally BURN me on any 3 minute trip. It was fast as hell, but I couldn't stand driving it around... and the AC just could NOT keep up.
I'm personally starting to like the idea of a diesel... seems more "truckish" and I always liked the sound of em... and they are cheaper here cuz people don't want them.
I'm thinking since there are no electronics involved, it's pretty easy to slap on a T3/T4 and make some good power out of it... but i'm just guessing. No diesel experience whatsoever.

The FJ43 was a very rare model (compared to other J4 models) , but the one in your pic was definitely upgraded with later model 40 Parts.
With regards to Aircon, it would not make much sense to fit aircon with a canvas top vehicle unless you fit a solid fibre glass canopy. That aircon must work overtime and all the time in your climate!
