It doesnt "need" any of those things per-say. I just want a better suspension, better engine, and different paint color. Basically just wants, not needs.

Please don't turn that FJ40 into a VJ40, and if you repaint it please use one of the original colors. :crybaby: There's something magical about an original 40.

I wanna keep it looking as original as possible. Basically, I just want to get it structurally perfect as I can with no leaks or patch work or any cheap cover ups. Then I want to get the engine as perfect as possible and put some 33" x 10.5" Bf Goodrich All Terrains on it with a solid suspension. Thats it.

As far as the paint goes, I wanted to go with that kinda army fatigue green. I know thats a popular color with some of the later 76-82 models. Was that an original color for the '70 FJ's?

would have been worth more without that FSU sticker...

Great looking rig. Can't blame you for wanting to change the engine, just know that there are very few of these left as (seemingly) stock as what you have there, and if your appraiser actually knew what he was doing, that would be a big part of that 15 - 17k number. In other words, changing that engine will probably drive the real value down.

That said, it's your horse and you have to ride it: if you want a V8, get a V8. 40's are a lot of fun, but mostly when you drive them.

Yeah, Ive been researching more and think, if anything, ill get the engine just removed, cleaned, and refinished. Any clue where I can get my hands on some 1970 wheels? Preferably original, but if not refurbished? I also want to round up an original steering wheel.

It is my opinion that we all tend to rush into things when we get a new toy instead of having patience and enjoying and learning about our new toys.I have made few major changes to my cruiser except needed repairs ,Birf rebuild, Fluids and hoses, belt, new tires that kinda stuff.I did put nissan altima bucket seats in though as the original seats were in BAD shape but I kept them for posterity??I still have a roll bar I bought and a bikini and windshield bar I have not installed.I kinda like cruising with my half doors in the summer?

You can still get them from the dealer. Get the hubcaps too while you're at it.
