Sorry I don't have suggestions, haven't been up there since '89. I will say we ran across many people on ATV's and in 4x4's on the trails around Camp Grayling - we rolled by on M113 APC's and M48A5 and M60A3 tanks. ;)

I think a removable sleeping platform would be cool but you would probably have to remove the 2nd row as well. It was pretty tight sleeping diagonally in the back. I have seriously thought about sleeping in my rocket box at times but even inside the truck it gets cold. I think for one person sleeping in the back for a few nights is no problem but 2 up would be very difficult. Keep an eye out for a roof top tent. I got one used for $500.

Depending on how tall you are, if you just fold the second row down and do not tumble forward, you could make a sleeping platform that provides a level area with a drawer system at the correct height and a panel on a hinge that flips over and either rest on the back of the seats or has some support legs. Lots of stuff like this guys put in 80's. I use to just leave my 80 back end open and the tail gate provided the length I needed. Didn't sleep with it open in the snow though. I am also the guy that sleeps with a pad and bag on the ground next to the fire with no shelter as long as it is not raining (or snowing!).

Well having two car payments has stifled progress on the truck. I finally grew tired of the leaking wheels, so I got an inexpensive set last week. I think it looks much better, so hopefully they last.

I really was not a fan of your previous wheels, albeit they looked better black. I think your truck looks much much better with the new wheels. In fact I like the new wheels very much. What kind are they?

They are MB Wheels 352. My local discount tire had them for $107 each. For the price, I couldn't say no to finally replacing those leaky outdated American Racing wheels.

My credit has improved significantly over the past couple years, so I am trying to get out of two payments and into one with better interest. I listed the truck for sale on CL for feelers. I have it listed for 13k, 105k miles, nothing wrong, but curious if pulling the running boards and running bigger tires would hurt the value. I see some around here for 10k but mine has pretty low mileage considering its age.

I'm local to you OP.
What are you planning to replace the GX with?
I am actually more interested in selling my Fiesta ST, but I did end up with approvals to refi both cars, saving me a lot of interest. I was just looking at a newer GX, but also am on the list for the Focus RS. However, as I don't imagine anyone will bail from that list, I may go for the Lexus. I actually want an older FJ or something for adventures, but to daily drive something fuel efficient and save the adventure rig miles, well, for adventures. I figured that if I could sell the truck, I could then trade in the Fiesta at the dealer and get into something new with a warranty and get out of the brown interior. Let's just say that I'm keeping my options open, but believe that I cut the market of potential buyers down a lot by installing those wheels and tires. haha.

List it on 4runner.org.
You'll find a buyer.
