Hi all,

I'm a new member, looking forward to getting involved here. My family has owned a '76 FJ40 for 4 generations, I believe it was bought new by my great-grand-uncle, and passed down to me now that my grandparents are getting up there in age. I am currently in the process of getting the emissions equipment sourced and reinstalled so that I can bring it back into California, so I will be combing the classifieds here for smog equipment! Here are some pics of the cruiser and my beloved supercharged 3rd gen 4Runner:

Nice looking 40, appears there may be a small amount of rust around the rear sill by the color difference but overall looks like solid. Not sure how California handles emissions on these. I know this era FJ40 California had it's own very different emissions. Federal emissions weren't near as bad and more common to find parts for.

The top with the vent window is 8/76 or newer production. Same with the spare tire carrier. I also do not see a vent in the cowl that was removed 8/76. 9/73-8/76 the cowl vent was welded closed in models with a heater. 8/76 it was removed completely. Being a 77 model is a plus.

Welcome, very cool back story and old school Con-Ferr rack

How weird I was always told that it was a 76, but after looking into it, it does look like a 77. Thanks for the info.

I've been reading a few threads around here and it seems to me that the main difference in the CA emissions equipment is the thermal reactor manifold, which it looks like it still has. Funnily enough I think this will be the second time that someone has reinstalled emissions equipment on this cruiser.
