Hi everyone. I just picked up a brand new (to me) LX470 (pretty rare in NZ).

I came from a 90 series petrol Prado (The mighty 90).

I have to say I absolutely love my new beast, I was holding out for a 2006 to get the vvti, but I opted for the 2003 that I came across as it had a solid service history and was completely un touched by previous owners (both of them lol) along with the 5 speed

I have a million things I want to do, but ill be starting on the basic service elements to keep her running sweet :)

One weird thing. I found a connector tucked up under the hood release, I found a pic online of the component it plugs into, but have no idea what it is, can anyone ID it?

I believe that is the exterior temperature sensor.

Edit: smoke/smog sensor

2UZ-FE + 5-speed? Nice, those are very rare, especially in LX guide. Great find!!

I think OP means 5-sp automatic.

Ahhh, my bad. Sorry!

Sorry mate, yeah the 5 speed auto :)

I believe that is the exterior temperature sensor.

Are you sure? I don't have it on mine, yet I have an outside tempo reading, I believe my sensor is along between the end of the frame and the bumper.

Correction: Smoke/smoke sensor

Welcome! Does the NZ 4x4/ute culture model itself on your neighbors in the land of Oz, or is there a unique Kiwi take on Land Cruisers? I know the geography is different, I wonder how that factors into how you guys buy/build/spec your vehicles.

Ah gotcha! I take it from the link too, that it only applies to LX's with the auto setting for recirc too. I'll just tuck that back up into the rad support and forget completely about it lol!

AU and NZ are virtually the same as far as Landcruiser's culture and 4wd we share a lot of the same terrain and outdoor type mentality. Aussie has the desert, but its not like people spend all their wheel time out there, its mostly tracks with mud and water and a bit of rock and river crossing in both countries. I spent 3 years living over there and hung out with the same sort of people I hang with here. We are all good c**ts :p They fetch a high price over here and retain value based purely of the Toyota reliability rep. I would say the diesels are the most sought after. I have always preferred the petrol as we have road user charges in NZ which is a complete ball ache. :) Atleast that my take on it :)
